H.i.d. Conversion Of Low And High Beam

Hi,

I have a 2002 model corolla and i'm in the process installing a H.I.D conversion kit. However, i have a few issues. I would really appreciate if anyone can give me their comments on this.

Basically, i'd like to install HID xenons for my low and high beams (hence that means i need to change 4 bulbs in total) I've purchased two HID kits with H7 bulbs, which gives me a total of 4 bulbs. But my problem is that, changing all 4 bulbs means i have a total of 4 ballasts. And as you may or may not be aware that there is very little room in the engine compartment to store these ballasts. Therefore, storing a total of 4 ballasts is proving to be rather diffcult. So i was wondering if i could possibly cut the output wire from the ballast that goes to the bulb and use terminal connectors and hence use one ballast to power two bulbs. This will reduce the ballasts from 4 to 2. If this is possible, i could possibly put the 2 High Beam bulbs on one ballast and the 2 low beam bulbs on the other ballast.

This is just my idea but as i'm not and electrician i'm not really sure whether it is possible and safe to do this as there might be issues with the power consumption etc. I dont know if a ballast has enough power to light two bulbs.

Any comments on this would be very much appreciated

ahmed did you put this post up becuase people stopped posting on your other topic.

from your last one im sure you had a problem with the lights cutting out and if thats still the problem i doubt that reducing the balasts will help as then they have to deal with more power, and are more likely to short out.

how did you solve that problem if i may ask? since i was very interested in those kits.....

there was a issue with my electrics in the car, got that sorted by toyota and it seems to be OK now.

Can anyone please advise me on any possible solutions to overcome the following problem i'm encountering with my HID conversion.

I have a Corolla 2002 model and basically, as you may know that when the headlight is turned to Position 2 (as reffered to in the User Manual) the low-beam H7 bulb turns on, aswell as the parking lights right below the low-beam light (clear 5W wedge bulbs).

My problem is that, the low-beam is a H7 HID xenon bulb which is crystal white and at the bottom i have a yellowish parking light that stays on all the time. I dont like the idea of having a mixture of colours, and as far as i am aware it's not possible to change a parking light to HID.

Has anyone overcome this problem? or anyone have any suggestions? would really appreciate any advice

Thanks

dont Halfords do pure white side light bulds which are extra bright have you tried changing the bulbs any way sometimes with age the bulbs do go yellow look to see if the bulbs have started to blacken over.

i'm thinking of maybe getting one pack of Philips W5W BlueVision bulbs for the parking lights. This one: http://www.carbulbs-direct.com/index.asp?f...mp;productid=72

Apparently this particular bulb has a HID look and is filled with xenon gas and produces the colour temperature of 3300K.

My HID xenon bulbs are 6000K colour temperature, so i dont know how having a mixture of 3300K bulb and having a 6000K would look.

does anyone know if it will mix well?

souldn't make such a difference between the two.... however it will definitly give you a much brighter and whiter light thus removing that yellow glow. i changed mine, and even with normal bulbs, it made a huge difference.

one final question, so your problem was just a one of problem or do all corollas need some kind of fiddling before an HID is fitted?

sorry for so many questions, but i'm on the verge of buying myself a kit, but don't want to buy it just for nothing.....

Yeap, the problem was just on my one as it had a fault that needed fixing. I doubt all corollas have this issue. You should be able to install a HID kit without a problem.

i wouldnt recommend using 2 ballasts for 4 bulbs.

it could cause sparking, high usage on the ballast than originally designed for.

as you dont use the highbeam as much as the low beam why not just replace the fog lamps to hid?

^ i take it you get annoyed with people using their front lower fog lamps when no needed!

you can use fog lamplamps during normal driving conditions improves visability around corners...police aint gona say anything if anything they aint bothered if anything they will say turn them off. wow, big deal!

point is, it looks good!. end of.

The police actually issue a £30 penalty if they stop you for using your fog lights. The offense in their book is reffered to as "Misuse of lamps". If the copper who stops you is in a good mood, he might just give you a warning and let you off. I was stopped once for my foglights and had to pay a damn £30 fine aswell as produce my insurance documents etc..

point is, it looks good!. end of.

damn right it looks good, but i'd rather not face another fine :P

if the copper is in a bad mood he can report you for court and then you can be looking at a lot more than £30 might even get points if your lucky. in fact a summary offence has a maximum sentance of six months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5000.

as it is also becoming a more common problem on the roads the cops are doing more about it to.

think about it next time you turn your fogs on, is it worth £5000 just becuase i think my car looks good?

highly unlikely, you think the courts are gona waste der time on fogs lights lol hahahaha

police in my area are more worried about uninsured drivers than drivers with fog lamps on.

I've just completed my HID conversion. Will post some pics within the next few days.

I've got a service booked in at Toyota Dealers this week, does anyone know if they would say anything about the HID conversion?

Who are you kidding?

In Birmingham, if someone drives with them on they are regarded as so dim, oncoming traffic usually gives them full beam in the face to try to brighten the road for them... :P

It's also illegal but I suppose you think it's ok to drive through red lights as well don't you ;)

highly doubt it, its 2002, so i take it the car out of warranty?

yeh the car is out of warranty, so i'm not bothered about the issue of warranty being void as there is no warranty left on it anyway. i've got a normal service due, so i was just wondering if they'd say anything about it at the dealers

Well said ...... I also like to help with the lighting too ;) !

Knobs :censor: :ffs:

You may think that it looks good, however everybody driving past is saying look at that **** with their fogs on lol
