Hi Guys

Im new on here seems like a good forum, Just wondering if anyone can help ive got a 1988 2.0 GT which has some mysterious starting problems ie: It wont start very randomly

When i go to start it it either starts immediately or i get nothing at all form it. It Bump Starts almost instantly but wont turn over or anything on the key.

Battery is fine leads etc are fairly new.

I suspect the starter motor and have sourced a second hand one but i have another proble Where on earth is it situated on these engines?? ive looked with the bonnet open and just cant find it anywhere?

Any help much appreciated

Hi,

welcome to TOC.

It does sound like it could well be the starter motor.........no idea where it is in the Gen 4 though.

Someone will be along soonish who knows a lot more than me though .

Good luck with it.

I had the same issue as the car I purchased was a GEN 4 GT recently, the starter motor, if your standing directly infront of engine is just partly under the inlet manifold (right hand side).

small hammer should unstick the solenoid and get you going.

Matt

I recently skimmed over a thread on my searches (can't refrence site) where a similar discussion took place.

One conclusion was that it was a common fault within the starter(s) relating to the live feed and its contacts. One guy just bridged a sigle wire to his Battery Live terminal :-o

I wouldn't recommend anything but why not try moving the wire feed next time it happens ?
