Has anyone seen or got the Tom-Tom Sat nav package for the Aygo? If so, how does the unit fit onto the 'shelf' above the radio on the dashboard? Could you post pictures?

I already have a Tom-Tom 500 and wondered if it was possible to buy just the mounting bracket (or whatever it is) as I'm sick of the rubbish windscreen mounted sucker bracket from falling off in the first bit of bad weather.

Worst case I may have to resort to a big bit of velcro - not very elegant I know!

The kit is mounted by drilling/sawing a hole

into the "shelf" in which it "clicks" into place.

I did a search, but can't find the dock they

use anywhere, so it might be Toyota-specific...

And from what I saw when searching the new TomToms

(the x10 series?) have a new kind of connector, so you'd

be fitting older technology that's basically obsolete...

There are several fixed mountings available for TomTom,

you might want to check those out, possibly in combination

with the special console for a phone holder that Peugeot sells...

Hmm. Not so sure about drilling a gaping hole in the dash - Plan B I think! (scurries off to find some big velcro!)

I have the tomtom 500 fitted it is great turns to night mode when you turn the headlights on , works through the radio and charges without any lead running over the dash i can post some pics if i get time from behind the dash and how it is fixed.

My Garmin sat nav comes with a bean bag so no screws or suckers to worry about and it does the job very well. You could make one - a plastic bag full of dried lentils will do.

Can someone clarify for me then - what TomTom units will be able to connect to the TomTom mounting unit?

I was thinking of a ScanGauge to put into that particular section but can't be bothered paying a premium just to see how many mpg im doing at that given time (which was the only reason i wanted the damn thing)

I have also included a few pics to see which would fit the mounting unit

Try this link. It shows mod's on my car including The Toyota TomTom mounting kit as fitted in my Platinum. I have checked the installation instructions & the moubt is only compatible with TomTom GO 300/500/700. It does integrate well into the car muting stereo when voice instructions are given. when the GO 500/700 are fitted it gives fully handsfree bluetooth telephone & dims the unit when headlights are switched on.

I just use my n95 with Garmin software for GPS and it works fine. if I ever used a standalone unit I wouldn't go for a tomtom, I prefer Garmin. When this is done how easy/difficult is it to attach/deattach the unit? And would it only power tomtom units?

I dont leave anything sitting in the car (at least in view) when i leave it e.g. when im at work and its in the car park, im sure some we b*stard wouldnt think twice bout smashing the windowscreen to get at the gps

wtf?!?

Apparently, theives target cars with sat-navs.

Because most people with one, leave it in the glove box or under a seat.

Any evidence of a Sat-nav makes you a target.

e.g. sucker marks on windscreen or a mounting kit.

Hence the disguise.

Possible target for passing horses or tramps now though.

I understood the reason for that little mod ;)

I got one of these for my GO720 and stuck it to the 'shelf'. Works a treat. Sat Nav is very secure and hasn't fallen off once, and I can actually reach it which is a bonus! Plus it's easy to remove all evidence of the Sat Nav when you're not in the car........

I purchased the stick on disc from eBay but did not use it because I fitted my scangauge on the shelf instead. The Go 910 which I have, fits nicely on the windscreen with the normal window mount and is out of the way but visible. You can just unclamp this and hide your unit away when you leave the car!

With food prices going the way they are, I would be more worried about leaving an Apple in full view!!!!

You're right. :o

I had a look round for something else instead.

I'll take the Apple out. My wallet & camera fit just

right so I'll leave those there instead! :P
