Alloy Wheel Bolts

Recommended Posts

I'm putting my stock Rev1 wheels back on my Mk2 to sell it.

I come to open up the bag I stored the bolts in and find I have two types - 10 with long heads and 10 with short heads.

I presume one set are for the front and one for the back - anyone have any idea which way round they go?

Cheers

Hmmm.. never noticed this before (and i'm a tyre fitter ) Useing a bit of logical thinking, i would suggest that the long heads would go on the rear.. my reasoning?... the rims have a larger J size which could mean that the holes in the rim to accomodate the nuts are deaper on the rear, if the longer ones go on then they would sit with the head of the nut in the same position in relation to the rim as the shorter ones on the front. All you need to do is put one short and one long on a front and rear wheel.. if the look odd or different, then you will be able to see what nut goes where... if you are still unsure, then in the interesrts of saftey (you obviously don't want a wheel coming off) all i can say is, make sure you get at least 5 full rotations of the wheel key when you put the wheel on, that is enough to ensure that you are catching enough threads on the hub to prevent it coming off/loose.
