Hi Guys, long time no see (lost the forum address  )

Anyway now the cold weathers here my previa has decided its not going to start? Its not the Battery as its only a yr old, it just wont start!!!

Changed all the plugs, leads, dizzy cap and air filter last year due to other problems and its been running fine, but as soon as the cold got here, thats it. Wont even start if you jump it, the only way is too drag it up the road by another car, then it runs or rather purrs. However if its run at night you get the odd splutter. The in the morning back to square one.

Pointless taking it to a dealer, they dont have a clue

so pleease anyone got any ideas

many thanks

Mike

ps according to the haynes manulei checked the cold starter sensor on a multi meter and it read 3.5 ohms and states it should be between 2 and 4 in the book, assuming i done it right that is :D

I would suspect condensation since you described sputtering and it's related to cold (night or morning). You mentioned changing leads, distributor cap etc, how about spraying WD40 around to displace any moisture?

just one other thing, and i hope this is not the head gasket, the water levels have needed topping up a bit more than normal when its been running and the temp will go up after a thrash up the motorway and there seems to be a lot of pressure in the expension tank, is there anyway of testing for a head gasket going and causing this not starting problem

thanks guys any advise would ne much appricated

Easiest check for most head gasket problems is brown sludge in the oil (caused by water getting into the oil).
