Front Speakers

The posts and topics here are really helping me to understand how I'm gonna do the work, thanks for that everyone.

I have a pair of Alpine SPS-171a 6.5" components which I was thinking of installing this weekend. I see here that some people say they are too deep for the avensis front doors which means I might have some serious work ahead of me. Before going ahead with the task however I'd like to know if I'll have to remove the existing grills in order to get the needed depth since that might become a problem if I want to keep it nice-looking. Or is it even confirmed that the Speakers are too deep!? (probably you guys will just tell me to find out myself) :P

Just in case anyone with experience would have some thoughts and ideas on this...

Old post, but if this could give some new information for those who are about to change those crappy Speakers...

I have a -99 avensis sedan, complies with front doors (no information on those rear doors).

If I remember right, there's ca. 35-40mm between the door and the window (when it's down). There's not many component systems available that can fit there. I installed rainbow CS 265 X-Plain (6,5" & mounting depth 43mm) there. But I had to make there my own install rings to fit. The ring was made out of 10mm chipboard, plus a lot of grinding and putty.

There's also toyota's native install rings, but those are for the original Speakers. If I recall right, those rings are a part of those Speakers, so they won't work. The original speaker-ring system is attached to the door with rivets, which will make it even more difficult. Also the doors form isn't linear, so there are some bends on it.

"edit"

There's a bit space between the door and the door panel, about 2-3cm. So there's some space to play with, only if that speaker will be even a little bit to that direction compared to the original speaker.

Sorry for my grammar and misspell.
