Rear Axle

Hey guys and gals!!!

Went for a 4 wheel alignment the other day!!!

The car was well out on the front shreding inside walls of my tyres different from last time as it was eating the outside walls (!Removed! speed bumps). Anyway was told the back axle was in tolerance but it is not right!!! The only way to resolve the issue is to replace the back axle!!! Not worth it as it is still in tolerance by .5 mm!!!

Anyway was just wondering if i were to fit a rear strut brace and roll bar would that help strength it up and possibly reduce the tolerance?

Rolley!!!

"Anyway was just wondering if i were to fit a rear strut brace and roll bar would that help strength it up and possibly reduce the tolerance?"

doing the above will not reduce the tolerance it has nothing to do with it and i like to see someone install rear strut on a corolla i know you have to cut the rear panel .

"Has it been jacked up on the rear axle at some point?"

lets just say if it has been it would not knock the rear beam out of is position what so ever .

it might only be 0.5 mm but on any multi link rear setup it would eat the rear tire's up but on the corolla setup far as i can see it doesn't affect it .

my rear is also out by a little but nothing to worry about unless you have uneven tire's wear on the rear then it need to be fixed .

Not to my knowledge!!! I wouldn't have thought so to behonest its only ever been touched by Mr T and all new tyres have been on the front of the car!!! I thinks its the speed bumps I have on the way to work!!!

I haven't got uneven tyre wear on the back luckily!!! Was just checking if any of the above would work to strengthen it as to prevent it from being damaged anymore!!!

Anyway, thanks guys cleared that one up for me!!!

all the axles produced at our plant are checked using sophisticated equipment.

if it is in tollerance then it will be ok, thats what tollerances are for, however things like hitting potholes, bouncing up kerbs or jacking up the car using the rear beam could knock it out. the impacts would need to be severe though.

have you had the car form new?

yes i had my car from new was lower from day one and my car is just out of the factory tollerances in the first year and toyota dealer's will not repaired my car under warrenty so i had a independent report done on my car and i was told by a independent engineer it could not of been done by hitting potholes, bouncing up kerbs at low speed or any other kind of normal UK driving road condidtion's ,i was also told by independent engineer the rear beam are so solid very very strong unless it has been damage by very very hard force or very very hard inpact directly onto the beam then it shouldn't make the rear out of alignment,i then told toyota GB about all these finding and point out to them if is that fragile then this car are NOT fit to be sold to be use on U.K road's , then toyota GB send out a engineer of their own to inspect my car the toyota engineer was friendy to deal with ,he seen to agree with everything the independent engineer had find on his investigation on the toyota E12 corolla and now toyota GB gave in and agree that my corolla left the factory with the rear alignment out of factory tollerances and now agree to repaired my car under warrenty if the tyre's have show uneven wear otherwise no need to repired because the wheel's must be pointing and going at straight line somehow .

regarding the jacking up the car using the rear beam that was not said by any of the engineer's but me.since i know how strong the rear beam are so I really dont think it could make any damage or make it out of line if anyone accidently use the rear beam as jacking point, but not to say people should use the rear beam for jacking up there car hope i clear that up.

the main point i am trying to make here to all E12 corolla onwer's are if there is no uneven tyre wear then there isn't anything to worry about even if is out of factory tollerances by a small amount . if what i said was incorrect i am sure toyota dealer's will have quite alot of e12 corolla's book in everyday for a rear beam replacement under warrenty.

Are you a technician then because I beg to differ

The rear of the car hasn't be jacked up so i'm ok on that front thankfully!!!

The reason why i know is the beam has a cover over it that protcts the beam, and that is still straight and not bent!!!

Anyway....

The car isn't !Removed! the rear tyres just yet and hopefully it won't. I was merely checking to see if a Strut-brace and/or a rear anti-roll bar will reduce the effects and harden up the rear as to prevent it from becoming further out!!!

Anyway thanks guys for clearing up my query!!!

Much appreciated!!!
