Steamy Windows

Hi Guys,

I read a topic here a few weeks back about windows misting up, and followed the advice about swapping the aircon to external air... Which does work, but I found a MUCH faster way, in fact it stops it altogether.

I also ride a motorbike, so have problems with steamy visors, so always have some anti fog spray handy..

My current can cost me less than a fiver, and despite a full summer of using the bike to go to work and back, is still almost full...

So I thought I'd give it a try on the Celica windows... Waiting for the GLARE as the autumn sun comes thru thw windows..

But NO, it keeps the windows completely clear, and I have no glare at all, so long as I make sure I keep wiping until it's all dry..

The one I have is 151 Dream Machine (YES, CHEESY I know) by 151 products (blue, black and silver 300ml can), and it works well, so far ONE application has lasted over a month and is JUST showing signs that I need to put it on again, and lets face it, the inner windscreen also gets a polish, removing all the grime that always builds up as well.

I just tried this and couldn't believe how good it was, save so so so much time in the mornings, I can actually set my alarm later now! Well worth it. I got the Rain-X one.

Also put it on the bathroom mirror and now no matter how inconsiderate my housemates are being, I can still have a shave.

LOL, it's so cheap and so cool that it works so well innit... I REALLY have to do my windows again tho, it's been about 5-6 weeks, and I went down the local corner store in it this evening, and there where BIG chinks in the anti fog armour, but it still let me get in and drive away right away, after using the wipers on the ouside surfaces.

It's a B*gger, EVERY car I've owned, if I wind down the front driver/passenger door windows, it wipes the water, condensation or frost off enough on a light autumn morning so I can see thru the window, but NOT the Celica... Well I love the car so much, I'll forgive it that LOL.

Fizz.. REALLY not sure what U meant mate, maybe I'm too much of a newbie, but your comment left me thinking "HUH?"

Gary.

OH and Bristol.. Spent 5 years In Bristol, a TOP place with really nice workmates.

Get a good quality glass cleaner - I use Auto glym stuff. It gets rid of all the road film and grease that causes this to happpen. Although if it`s a cold misty morning it still does it to a degree.

AHH, I wondered what Fizz meant by Winders, was thinking window winders DOH LOL..

Actually I get that as well, sort of a patchy mist, so I'll try that glass cleaner as well :)

BTW, If you buy a car from a builder, expect lots of moisture... Had 2 cars from the guy I bought the Celica from, and it took me 3 months mopping the inside of the windows with paper towel and throwing it away to get rid of the thick condesation, that Froze in the winter from the BMW I bought from him a couple of years ago.

He carried all his building / plastering stuff in the boot (the carpet in there is a mess), so it must have been damp stuff.

Not complainign tho.. The Celica only cost me £600 T&T for 6 months, and it's 95% clean, just needs a few fixes and elbow grease

I'm going to give this a try, can't believe I never thought of using it in the car before, use it on my visor for karting all the time!!

  • 4 weeks later...

After trialing it for a while I have come to the conclusion that it isn't quite as great as I first thought. It is not bad though. It does work to prevent misting but if it gets heavy condensation it goes a bit streaky and makes a strange warm brandy type effect. It is also very difficult to buff off properly and leaves a nasty film. Maybe because I have tints.

Still definitely worth a try.
