Rav T180 Mpg

Hi

Just found this site and wonder what mpg other owners get from T180. I bought an ex-demo in May and it had constantly returned 25mpg urban and 29mpg motorway on cruise at 80mph. This is manually calculated which is similar to computer. Bit disappointed as was looking forward to 40mpg!

Toyota cannot find anything wrong and am told the Avensis T180 is just as bad.

My last car was an Audi Allroad 2.5TDI which did loads more mpg. My previous Impreza WRX was similar mpg as RAV which is really strange as I know which is quicker! Both these had permanent 4WD.

I also seem to have been short changed on fuel tank size. I thought it was supposed to be 60 litre but always empty around 45 litres and daren't drive much further with light on. This wouldn't be such a problem if it did 40 mpg, but I only get about 250 miles from full tank!

Help?

Looks like my T180 is returning an average of around 32/33mpg in the month I've had it (from new). I'm also a little disappointed, as I was expecting nearer 40mpg too. However, it is a lot better than the 20-22mpg I was getting from my old car. I'm hoping that will increase as the engine losens up a bit.

We picked up our '06 ex-demo RAV T-180 in August, done around 5000 miles in it now. Definately getting around 400 miles on a full tank and we get at least 35mpg (if I'm driving) and we had it up at 38/39mpg if my wife is driving (or I am doing a long run and I've set the cruise control on 72mph)!

Hi Anil. When are you going to join us then? :)

All this talk about disappointing mpg. Haven't we heard this all before? ;)

I think if I cruise at 70mph, I would get a bit more, but I don't.

Usually fill up at around 325 miles, which will see the needle just entering the last quarter.

The average on my T180 is about 34-38 mpg. One thing I have noticed is what type of diesel I use. Shell & BP give me a lot better return than Supermarket diesel( as per a previous thread on this Forum). I must admit I have never used Cruise Control. Most of my driving is urban plus a few trips to the west coast.

I have just completed 7,100 miles in my T180. Calculated average MPG from new is 38.9. Trip computer gives an identical reading so it seems to be accurate.

That's good - my XT4 average for its first 5000 miles has worked out at 38.9, too. My computer, however, always seems to be estimating it a few mpg better. Fill to fill calculations range from 36 to 45 - partly from the difficulty in filling to exactly the same level each time, though more often from changes in my driving pattern.

Just completed 2600 miles with my T180. getting 41-45mpg and am delighted. I even managed to return 25mpg towing a large twin axle box trailer. Fuel consumption was a major deciding factor to purchase the T180 and I had previously seen on this site that some people were getting low 30's or even 20's. Dealer reported that they were unaware of customers reporting poor consumption and thought official consumption figures to be obtainable. As engine continues to free up I feel confident that I will be able to reach these official consumption claims.

Don't forget to zero your trip computer as it will take into account the poor mpg during run-in. It will then take a couple of hundred miles to stabilise.

That's fantastic. Do you drive like a granny ;)

I filled up on Thursday, and made a conscious effort to drive economically, and after 86 miles I managed 36.9mpg (mostly urban). However, I just cannot drive like that. So this morning, as soon as I hit the dual carraigeway, I put my foot down. So much more fun :) . As long as I get more than 30mpg, I'll be satisfied.

Mmmm....

Drove into work today, and because the roads were fairly empty, had the opportunity to use the cruise control. Doing 80mph in 6th, the mpg was bouncing between 15-30mpg, but didn't notice it going above 30mpg. At 70mph, it was bouncing between 30-45mpg, but it was closer to 30mpg most of the time. In doing this, my average consuption went from 32.x before the journey, and 19 miles later (15 of which is dual carraigway) it went down to 28.2 mpg. Not brilliant!! What do people normally get when using CC?

You were doing 80 remember and drag increases exponentially so slowing to 70 would probably show a significant improvement. I should point out that rather than being holier-than-thou I'm guilty of exactly the same...

I was driving my mum's T180 the other day and i noticed its computer is reading about 34mpg from new about 1200 miles ago. Not great, but that's for mainly localish journeys which always have 2 miles of steep dirt track at the start and end whilst longer journeys have 20 miles of enthusiastically tackled Perthshire twisties at each end too.

If any of you would like to swap for a lightly tuned, 54 plate Yaris T3 D-4D with 42k on the clock then you just have to say. It averages over 50mpg despite my best attempts to get it lower! :)

I get about 35MPG here, doing a mix of motorway and rural A roads.

Mrs Daern gets much less when she's using it as her shopping tractor...
