Don`t be fooled by it Brian. If it were true then the manufacturers would be fitting them. Basically all it is, is a 10p resistor that fools your ECU into thinking it`s colder than it is and this in turn makes the ECU dump more fuel into the engine. It`ll actiually do more harm than good.

think of it this way... if it were so cheap to give the celica extra power then it would have been done by toyota to start with. :)

These resistors replace your air intake temperature sensor with a resistor and will do nothing but funk your engine up. Your air temp sensor is effectively a variable resistor, the resistance changing due to the temperature of the air passing over it. Hence the current being read by your ECU varies depending on air temperature. The "BHP Mod" sends has a resistance value that gives a current that is read by the ECU as cold. Cold air is more combustable than warm air due to its density, so the ECU will make the engine inject more fuel because it has been tricked to think it will all combust. In reality you are throwing fuel away, especially on a hot day. You may get a small benefit in power if the air temperature is only marginally warmer than the resistor says it is and your engine is conservatively timed, but that's not worth the potential damage it could cause.

However, the effect that this resistor may be counteracted by the 02 sensor in your exhaust, telling the ECU to reduce the amount of fuel being injected because too much unburnt fuel is passing through the exhaust, rendering the resistor pointless.

To summarise; the "mod" will either cause you to waste fuel, do nothing, or damge your engine. Therefore

I can only mirror the previous responses, stay well away! If the air temp sensor was useless, why would all car manufacturers fit them, when they could effectively remove a function of the ECU to gain power?!

I'm sure you're not the first person to be tempted by these otherwise legitimade looking mods, and definately won't be the last until some type of trading standards action is taken.

I'm a noob to celicas and the forum, but trust me, I'm an engineer.
