FMI and replace the turbo for the one fitted to the revision 3 engine (engine in the ST205) which should give you better power.

Im nbot technical but its something that a lot of owners do.

Im sure Dak will be along shortly to advise further. :)

anybody used Hybrid Turbos on the st185. Also what kind of actuator to go for. I am gonna be stripping it down in the new year and installing a metal H/G so that will be out of the equation soon

I'm sure dak will confirm but it's quite a bit more difficult to get the 185 up to 300 than a 205.

You will need a new turbo the easiest and cheapest option is a ct20 from a 205. Hybrids can be considered best ct hybrid seems to be the turbo technics one as they have created their own exhust housing which gets rid of the twin entry system and wastegate and removes the boost creep issue that plages the ct turbos.

Actuator wise it really doesn't matter if you got a boost controller. The way I look at it is go with the lowest pressure actuator you can as the actuator pressure is the lowest you can run.

You might also want to look at swapping the head for a 205 one or getting yours ported, and also consider a forged rebuild...

You also need to be thinking about fueling so uprated pump and injector which you'll need an aftermarket ecu to run.

Basically what's you limit money wise as that's what will really determine how far you can go.

The Gen 5 doesn`t lend itself to easy tuning. Really in a nutshell as stated you need a bigger turbo, FMIC more fuel and an easier breathing head. That way 350 should be achievable without boosting the balls off it.

Another way to think is the way i`ve gone. more power + Less weight. Mines pushing 280 BHP at the very maximum with everything maxed out. But the car only weighs a nadge over 1200 kg so power to weight is about 230BHP/Ton. Compare that with the following

standard UK ST185 which weighs a sluggy 1380kg and 200 BHP works out at 145BHP/Ton

standard UK ST205 which weighs a whopping 1496 kg and 242 BHP works out at 161BHP/Ton

non standard UK ST205 with say 350 BHP but same weight would be 233BHP/Ton.

So in theory mine will slaughter a standard ST205 :yahoo: but anything thats been breathed on will be more of a challenge.............. Adam. :P

Plus you get the added benefit of better braking + better handling. Forget better fuel consumption tho

I`m just waiting for a nice priced ST205 lump to become available before i go any further. Just think eventually 1150kg @ a safe-ish 400BHP.......... 350BHP/Ton. Mwahahaha.... DonT know if i`ll ever get there but i`ll give it a go.

Didnt think the 205 weighed in at quite that much Dak?

I thought it was 1400-1440 depending on ABS, sunroof etc...

first thing id be doing is swaping the head gasket for a steel one and replacing the head bolts with arp items. this is a must as the compsite hg on the 185 is no good if your looking for power. to get the job donew properly youll be looking at about £500 that should get the head completely overhauled and checked over and skimmed if nessesary, oil and filterchange as well as coolant

You could well be right Mike. Every web site quotes a different weight for them. Lardy lardy. But 50Kg either way won`t make an earth shattering difference. There`s a guy on Altrac.net thats got his gen 5 down to 50lb under a ton - i think its just an engine, gearbox and wheels.

And as Dawesy says. ST185, sort the head. But TBH i think if you`re going to go to the bother of doing the HG you might as well get a ST205 head and associated gubbins.

you need to get yourself joined up on www.gt4oc.net they will be able to give very detailed advice and have more knowledge of gt4's

HEY, IM A NEW MEMBER HERE. JUST LOOKING AT YOUR PICTURE, ASAMGT, THE FRONT MOUNTED GT4. I ALSO HAVE A FRONT MOUNT, BUT HAVENT DYNO'D. JUST WONDERING, LETS SAY ALL CONDITIONS ARE THE SAME, I GOT 206 KW (276 BHP) AT THE WHEELS, THEN PUT ON A FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER, WHAT POWER CHAGNES SHOULD I EXPECT? YOUR POWER RATING ON YOUR SIGNATURE AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR POST, IT SAYS 342 bhp IS THAT AT THE WHEELS OR THE ENGINE?

IM LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO ALSO HAVE FRONT MOUNTS SO I CAN SHARE IDEAS. I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD ASK YOU IF YOU HAVE ANY PHOTOS OF YOUR FRONT MOUNTS PLUMBING OR DESCRIBE TO ME HOW YOU PLUMBED YOUR FRONT MOUNT, FROM THE INLET PIPE TO THE OUTLET TO THE THROTTLE.

THANKS

Adam's also got a garret gt2871 turbo hence the inpressive power figure. To make the most out of a FMIC you'd need a remappable ecu it'll make some difference with the stock ecu but not as much as if you get a full remap.

my stated power figure is at the flywheel but was taken BEFORE i fitted the FMIC so i dont know what its running now

out of interest, what have you done to your gt4 to achieve 276bhp at the wheels?
