Right! Aux Belt Again!

After discovering that the slipping aux belt is a common fault on the gen7's I tried the old WD40 which to be honest didnt do a great deal of good for very long. Ive been reluctant to take the car back to the garage as from what I can gather it can be a tricky problem to resolve.

However lately its started to get worse, if Im in a higher gear and I slow down, when I accelerate again I hear the belt slipping untill the car picks up a bit more speed.

Now this to me sounds like a bigger issue than the light slipping sound it makes when I start the car up on a damp/wet morning and Im wondering if I actually just need my aux belt replaced?

Can anyone advise on this as I really have no idea and I dont want to be blagged off by the garage :help:

hi bit late but if ur still wondering i had the same problem. it sounded horrendous, i took it to one garage who told me it was the bearings, that they'd need replacing, but to do so they may need to remove the engine.

i then went to my usual garage who told me it was the belt, that they didnt last long on modern cars and that he could change it for 35 quid all in. it solved the problem!

i tried the wd40 trick to and it wsorks for like 10 mins, to temporarily stop it try smallest drop of oil, but get it to garage, for 35 quid its not worth the hassle of getting messy in the morning!

hope that helps!

Hi :D

I had the same problem until i tried the Halfords Silicon spray i sprayed the belt while the engine was running and it must have gone for at leat 7 months without squealing, just had the car serviced and got them to change the belt.

Give it ago you never know. :D
