Rear Boot Light (or Lack Of It)

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi all,

Have posted before but in the Celica and RAV-4 forums.Swapped the Celica :crybaby: for the Aygo.Well, the wife was complaining about parking it, it was due for MOT etc so took the plunge and did the swap.

So I now own a Aygo Black-I like it but the wife is now moaning about the lack of a rear boot light (and the passenger side, if the truth be told)

Does anybody have any fixes for the rear bootlight, either a kit of some sort or recommendations for a portable light? And dont say a torch-I tried that and got short shrift -she says she has enough in her hands, fumbling about in the dark, without holding something else

Thanks

Stew

I'm assuming for the passenger door you could buy the door switch and wiring loom for a LHD model but I would not know how to connect it into the existing system.

For the boot are there not Battery powered lights that have a built in tilt switch? You would fit it under the parcel shelf and when you opened the boot lid the shelf would tilt and the light illuminate. Try Halfords?

Sounds like a good idea! I'll have a look tomorrow-I want something like this that is idiot proof

I stuck an OSRAM Dot-IT in the boot.

That's a small Battery powered LED-light with

about 100hours of light on 3 AAA battteries.

You turn it on and off by tapping the lens cover.

Sorry, not my own pic, haven't had a chance to make one

The Dot-IT is temporary for me; I plan on fiting something automatic when I find the time,

probably with a reed switch so it even reacts to the trunk lid being open just a little bit.

Have to figure out a place to mount it though and power, preferably from the car,

maybe I'll tap into the wiper-circuit if thet stays powered with the ignition on...

I believe this car has them fittted too, can't be sure

as all you see is the light, not the actual lamp...

I've just been to my local B&Q and they didnt have any! :( But, i did come accross some other LED Battery powered lights. I bought one for about £6 and ive rigged it up so that when I open to boot the light comes on! its even got a switch on so if i have to remove my parcel shelf, the lights not on all the time! Bargain!

Fitted the 2 Osram lights in today - very good quality and I'm pleased with the results.

For the reed switch I had one put on my boot lid for my alarm and here is a picture of where I got him to put it.
