i have a few questions about my new car:-

does anyone know what sat nav system will be fitted to my car? and if it's possible to make it play movies?

thanks

AFAIK, the basic satnav system will be a monochrome display, also used for the trip/fuel computer stuff.

UNLESS the previous owner had the upmarket DVD based system installed, then I don't know if it will play movies-sorry!

Well if those pics are of your new car then nice purchase mate it's looking well tasty.

Looks like you have the full colour sat nav system there with the screen in / on the dash where normally there is a little cubby hole with a lid. Don't think it can play DVD's though I'm afraid :-(

yeah, it's the dvd system according to the dealer... i guessed it wouldn't play movies as standard, but i'm hoping to be able to modify it so that it can if anyone has any tips?!...

thanks

It won't play DVDs at all without major additions. The monitor takes an RGB signal rather than the usual composite video, not too sure if its pal or ntsc though as yet. The satnav box is under the passenger seat and you would need to cut several wires and add some type of switching device, non of this is impossible but will require considerable work and nerves.

I want to fit a reversing camera and one day I will get round to it but its not a quick job. I have not yet found any after market modules for the avensis so it will all have to be DIY.

cheers chris - it does look well in black. what colour have you gone for? to be honest, i've always fancied a black car but never got round to getting one, so i'm looking forward to the avensis

thanks iain. i also fancy a reverse camera so let us know if you make any mods! regarding the sat nav/movies, is there only the one input on the monitor? rgb which is used by the sat nav? i was hoping there would be additional input ports i.e. i know my mate has a VW golf which has factory sat-nav and you can buy an add-on TV tuner which i believe plugs in to a 2nd input port

what about bluetooth phone kits - does anyone use one in their avensis?

cheers

Very nice looking car. I have a T180 Tourer with a fixed hands-free car kit, however the demo car I drove had a Toyota bluetooth kit and while I didn't try to pair my phone with it the regular driver told me it worked well with his phone. Sorry I don't know what type of phone he has.

Happy motoring. ;)

I went for the decuma Gray, I originally speced the Black. My wifes car is black and shows the dirt a bit too much, that said it's still the best looking colour when clean.

As for bluetooth car kits, I have had the nokia 610 kit in my current car with a nokia 6610i and it was a bit flakey. Believe nokia have a replacement out.

My new car has the tech pack so will have the bluetooth factory fitted and I will be using a Sony Ericsson K800i with it so I will let you know how it goes. I believe these kits can be retro fitted by the dealer or yourself.

  • 2 weeks later...

Works great with my K800i. Bit of a pain to pair it.

Method that finally worked!!

Pressed Mode, and said pair phone. Prompt told me to set my phone to scan.

Scanned with my phone, found the toyota kit, selected pair. At that point it prompted me for a passcode and at the same time the kit said pairing failed.

With the passcode prompt still on the phone, I repeated the mode, pair phone again and then entered the passcode 1234. Job done, phone paired.

Really good kit and well integrated into the car!

:)
