Warming Up

Hi! we just had our '91 g.t.r.'s engine reconned after buying it with the block cracked & sealed with crap.

Compression test was o.k. JESUS!

Finnally got it back after it was stripped three times because even though the system no longer pressurised

it kept boiling and losing water.

The guy reckons it was the 'stat but the fan has allways kicked in.Just wouldn't stop boiling& losing water.

Any way,it now heats up to running temp in ten mins max! It don't lose water much now but i never owned any car that warms up so fast!Anywhere near so fast in fact.

So,Celica people, how long should it take a 3S.GE Auto to get to running temp, given the time of year?

I'm bothered also because in one attempt to not have to do the job again the guy actually poured some form of copper based block sealant in to a new rad on a newly reconned engine!I was staggered!but found i'd no way of proving what'd happened since all the dosh had gone on the re-con.

Thanks for your time!

Mines a 3sge and it takes about 2-3mins in summer and about 15mins in winter (both while driving). I was shocked by the big difference as no other cars I've driven were this different between summer and winter.

Ten minutes sounds reasonable to me. Someone more experienced can prob confirm that though!

Yup 10 mins sounds about right to me. That's about the same as mine. I also was having the same boiling problem but a new fan and leaving it on all the time has sorted that. She never quite gets to the middle on the temp guage anymore and I haven't lost water in months. hth.

Just to add something else for you to think about get yourself an oil temp gauge and see how much longer it takes the oil to come up to operating temps than the water

Oh an the fastest heating engine I ever seen is the Rover K series took about 2-3 mins in the depth of winter.
