got the car from a fella in clonee (just outside Dublin) the car is a uk car MINT!!!!!!!!

doing a bit of bodywork now it will look the part when it's done, only thing with it is, when i start it i have to put my foot on the accelarator, if i dont it dosent start, what do you think is the problem?

I would normally press the accelarator to get any car going (habit I suppose). I can't think that there is any problem so long as the car doesn't stall afterwards. Does it tick-over OK?

Sounds like the choke mechanism is gummed up - a tin of carb.cleaner should sort that out - check for any split vaccum hoses also while the air filter is off.

As mick said, its related to the choke. You need to give the throttle a press anyway to set the choke on it, because in the cooler weather, it certainly wont start without the choke. I have the same problem on mine, and often i have to have a few attempts to get it sitting on choke.
