Niggles With 2.0 Gls Avensis Estate

I've got an R reg (98) 2.0 petrol estate and there a couple of minor issues which I would appreciate some comments on:

1) The oil level light comes on after a few minutes running and then stays on. Oil level is however fine. Would a new switch solve this and if so how difficult is this to change?

2) Engine misses slightly at low revs in lower gears (mainly). Is this likely to be solved by new plugs or could it be some form of engine management issue? If the latter could a non-Toyota garage solve it and if so how much would this cost?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

Martin

PS Any ideas about where to get a cheap replacement wiper motor?

Hi there,

The oil level may be ok, but is the oil pump working fine. I remember one of my old motors having the same problem, it turned out to be the oil pump not able to send enough oil to the head, which then showed a oil pressure problem, hence the oil light.

As for the miss, a set of new plugs would definately be a good start, as one of the cores may be a probem. But if that doesn't help, try getting a mobile tuner out to have a look, he will be able to test the engine sensors, if one of them is playing up this can cause the type of problem you mention.

Better still get the tuner to come and do it and he will replace plugs anyway, the last time I had one to mine it only cost me £35 (nothing wrong with it, I just wanted to get it checked over), and he said car was great, and that he rarely did toyotas cos don't seem to have many problems with them.

But these are only a start, hopefully they'll sort it though.
