6th Gen Tank Fill Trouble

I have a '97 6th gen ST. Lately I've been having trouble filling the tank. I can only squeeze the trigger a tiny bit to let the fuel trickle in before it clicks off. Needless to say, a/ I can only get about £5 worth in at a time unless I was prepared to stand there all day, and b/ it makes my hand ache like hell.

It varies fractionally with each station and actually faster pumps are slighly easier, but the problem is getting worse (if that's possible).

It was suggested by the girl at the station that it was an airlock. I checked with the local Toyota dealer who tells me there is no breather pipe in this model (how daft is that?) and that I should just adjust the angle of the nozzle and see if that helps. Apparently some of this model were recalled at the time because of a breather problem..although how that can be when there is no pipe is anyone's guess, but mine wasn't one of them.

Before I take it in so that Toyota can lower the tank, I just wondered if anyone had had the same problem?

cheers

izzie.

I had a similar problem with my Micra, might not help you at all but you just have to find a nak to it. I found putting the nozzle almost all the way in (minus a cm or so) and up at a slight angle worked perfectly.

Just try different positions.

yep, mine can be a pain, some garages are just a complete pain and I can't find a good spot. Generally I push it in and pointg it slightly towards the back and slightly uphill. Works at most garages
