Hello all,

Just got an X reg 190 in red, great condition and very impressed at the amount of car i've got for my money.

Wondering what i can do in the acceleration department and was hoping you could give any suggestions. Would a K&N filter or these performance modules you see advertised make any noticeable difference?

How reliable are these modules and do they put the car at risk??

Cheers,

Martin and Jenny(the car!!) :help:

Hello, and welcome! Get some pics up, we all like a drool...

If by 'performance module' you mean the e-bay "add 10,000 bhp to your car for a fiver" things, don't bother. They trick the ECU in to thinking the air is colder outside than it really is. You'll be shortening the life of your engine if you put one in, and probably for very very little gain.

You can get a decent panel filter, Blitz do one (rare), TRD do one, K&N do one.

You can remove the butterfly 'valve' in the front of the airbox for a bit more air through-put.

You can rip out the stock air box, and put a nice cone filter in there. Blitz are meant to be the way forward, but have no personal experience.

And finally a nice phat zorst! Blitz or TRD. Or maybe TTE if you like a centre double exit.

and thats about as good as it gets without spending silly money on a super charger / turbo converstion (neither of which the car seems to take too kindly to after a while!) and uprating engine internals...

Welcome to the club

As far as mod’s go I wouldn’t bother round our area ;) With speed cameras every 500 yards and the gaps in between now filled with jam sandwiches and camera guns, you won’t even get chance to get into ‘Lift’

Post up some pictures so that I’ll recognise you (Mine’s a silver Roadster, Anne has a 190 like yours)

Welcome to the club and a good choice of car! Unfortunately the engineers that designed these engines actually did their job properly and there is very little you can do to improve it. Allowing it to breathe more easily is about all you can do as DefiantFrog has mentioned.

Enjoy!

The S2000 sadly is a better 'performance' car and the only Celica that can compare to it would be the GT4 ST205.

Congrats on the purchase... what car have you moved on from?

Apart from the 'Lift bolts' :!Removed!: But hopefully that shouldn't be an issue

Excellent choice of car though :)

"Moved on" from a rusty '93 escort with mould in the boot, which was bought for cheap insurance due to a slight misdemeanor on my liscence!!!

Before that had a Renault 5 GT Turbo in top condition. When my insurance became less then my mortgage again, decided it was time to dump the mould mobile but was very suprised to see anything nearing the acceleration of my 5 Turbo was close on £20,000!

Not too disappointed tho as when my girlfriend is following me in the sleeka it looks effin great in the rear view!!!

The Celica GT4 like the model pictured under my name hits 60 in 5.4 seconds in standard import guise... so im sure it would be a good match to the 5 GT Turbo.. :P

I paid 8.5k from a dealer tho they wanted 9k+ and were tryin to pass it off as a T-Sport. Had just over 40k miles and was immaculate inside and out. Think they wanted the extra for locating it cos said i wanted a 190 after taking out a 140 they had in stock.

As for the GT4, it more than rivalled the GT Turbo which did 6.0 flat. What i meant to say was that to get something as fast under 5 years old was extremely expensive. Would have gone down the road of well maintained older car but girlfriend insisted on something newer for trouble free (hopefully) motoring!!

Nah, From Evans Halmshaw in Hull. They had a blue 140 in but wasn't sure, read the reviews and decided i'd take a 190 if i could find one to compare cos liked the look of the car but wanted a bit more from it. They retrieved one from an auction but obviously wouldn't tell me which one or i'd have cut them out. Can't complain too much cos it was in absolutely A1 condition and had been well looked after. Although as i said higher up, they did try to sell it me as a T-Sport and seemed reluctant to believe me when i said it wasn't!!
