Hi,

I currently own a 1996 N reg Celica Auto. I have recently noticed on the log book that it states 2.2 L (2187) i thought it was a mistake as i didnt think Toyota made this size engine and that the engine itself says 2000 on it.

Does anyone know anything about this ?

Did Toyota make a 2.2 litre, possibly only as an import

Yeah, the American celicas have a rather pathetic 2.2L engine. If yours says 2000 on it, then that's what it'll be.

You see, this is what i dont understand, the V5 says it is 2187, the car tax is higher than my last Celica (2litre manual) and it seems faster than my last one. So i thought it must be a 2.2, it is a Jap import not american

I just wondered if anyone else had come across this

hi there,

take a look at this pinned topic http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26524 which give the model number that should appear on the VIN plate for generation 6 celicas. If your's is a Jap import it should have the corresponding model no. on the VIN plate, so you can be sure what engine it is.

Your V5 details might be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time a government dept made a mistake!...and you could be paying higher insurance / tax :o

...also, if the steering wheel is on the right, its hardly american
