Induction Kits And Insurance

Hi folks :)

i'm thinking of getting a k&n induction kit, but i was just wondering how much people's insurance has gone up after declaring them?

my insurance is about £400 with Tesco, how much can i expect it to go up? When i asked how much it would be with non standard alloys, they said £150 more!!!

If it's more than a few quid i'll not bother!

Thanks in advance,

Luke.

Wow 150 quid for non-standard alloys is ridiculous. I though an increase of 10% with Norwich union for non-standard alloys was bad when I got new wheels (~70quid).

Not sure how much you should expect for an induction kit. wouldn't be too hopefull though, going on the cost for alloys. I think there are some companies that have minimal increases for mods which don't have a big impact on performance. Prob best to hold on till your renewal time.

i wouldnt tell them about an induction kit. if you are in an accident (hopefully not) then an induction kit would take less than 5 mins to swap back to stock box.

:crutchy: as long as you can still hold a screwdriver. I've always been a worst case senario worrrier though :(

You've also always got the issue of what to do if you get pulled by the fuzz and they want to inspect you vehicle and check your insurance cover which is their right.

You could see yourself with a fine of £1000 and a 6 month ban for driving without proper insurance, and they'll then tell the insurance company who will cancel your policy making it a right pain in the **** to get any insurance in the future never mind cheap insurance...

Also if you do get caught after having an accident you'll end up with above fine from police for driving without insurance, a wrecked car and the posibility of third party law suit to recover cost of their repairs...

I declared all the mods on my gen5 gt-r, didnt make a difference...induction kit, full adjustable suspension, exhaust system and alloys...

It was the same on my previous cars, MG ZS and saxo vtr...all the company said was thank you for imforming us and sent the new paperwork through. So I think its down to the company you're with.

:o lucky you .

I told my insurance i was gonna fit some aftermarket alloys the reply was my cover would be cancelled , not even a cost hike , they wouldnt allow it . I tryed a few companys who specialise in mods (adrian flux etc) and i was getting silly quotes - 24yr old , 3yr no claims good area , car garaged etc etc £1600 :(

May i ask who your with mate ?

Adrain Flux funnily enough... about £400-500 quid if I remember correctly full comp

Maybe it's the 25 thing, the insurance on the new car with all mods delcared my accident and sp30 4 years NCB(Was Protected :D ) was about 200 cheaper than my last renewal on the old Stock one from before I got the sp30 and accident history  :D

I don't think insurance companies give a crap about honestly. The point is, you could tell them you have a 1.1ltr engine in it and they'd still prob take your money. Its when it comes to the payout that they'll :censor: you up. If you crash (your fault) into a car full of people and land yourself in hospital and then insurance assesor gets to your car before you do and sees a few mods. They simply won't pay and you'll be liable for your car, the other car, compensation to the other people which could include loss of income......which could runinto hundreds of thousands before you know it.

Sorry to be so serious about it but that's the way i see it!
