Corolla - Wheel Vibration?

hi all

i recently bought a 4yr old corolla T3 1.6 with only 6k miles! Wahoo!

but i've recently noticed that when at speed (above 60mph) there is a slight shudder from the car. its not that noticeable but seems to be constantly there at this speed or above. it feels like a wheel is slightly buckled or something like that.

i took it the local (useless) toyota dealers who took it out twice for a test drive and couldnt hear/feel anything!

I'm not mad - just definite that something is wrong. any ideas what it could be or what i could do??

Thanks

There are several things that could be wrong :(

1. The wheels may need balancing ( likely if the wobbling stops or is reduced above 65/70 mph. )

2. The disc pads may be touching the disks.

3. The tracking may need adjusting.

These are the simple things, there may be problems with the steering rack, suspension, or any thing in that area.

thanks for that. if what you're saying is correct then about the wheel balancing, it seems that the opposite is happening - the vibration only appears above 65/70mph!

i'm not sure what to do; any work / investigative work that i ask Toyota to do is gonna cost me ££! i still have 2 months left on the warranty, but i don't want to go down any blind alleys with the inept technicians that seem to work there! they'll only cost me more!

I think the first thing you should do is to get the wheels balanced. Vibrations usually happen at higher speeds ( i.e. above 60 mph ), but depending how much they are out of balance the range of speeds can vary. :(

If it is balancing then the vibration usually goes at higher speeds, sometimes more than 80 mph. ( above the speed limit )

This is the cheapest thing to do and generally only costs a few £'s to do each wheel.

If that doesn't work then you should try tracking etc.

Got the wheels balanced - problem solved (as far as i can see!) Cost about £25 for all 4 wheels.

Very pleased, cheers
