Replaced my 52 plate Rav 4 Auto with a new XT5 auto a week ago. The parcl shelf/luggage cover is worse than useless and definitely not as good as the older design which has quite a large forum write up from Oct2004 to Aug 2005.

If you want to increase luggage space by moving the rear seats forward the the cover has to be unclipped thereby exposing what you would like to be hidden. The stupid thing is that the rear section which clips into the rear trim is telescopic. It only needs to be tele. for about an inch to fit into the bracket. Has Mr T got it back to front.

Glad I had the protection pack fitted as I know when I'm in reverse by the beep. First auto I've had that did not have dashboard indication of gear lever position.

The front flap arrangement on the luggage space cover surprised me, too. To spring load the main cover and then not bother with these exra two flaps... It takes longer to get the rear seats spotted correctly (slide and rake) to fit the covers than to collapse and restore them. In fact, I can fit a child seat for my granddaughter (when she's with us) quicker than the luggage cover!

Apart from the parcel shelf what do you think of the car in genral, also what milage are you getting, i've got the same car and was getting about 29.3 but now with 3500 miles on clock that has dropped to 28.5 and i'm a careful driver. On another point, the suspension i find is very very harsh see my earlier thread, just wondered what you think.

Hi Baz

I think the hard suspension is due to the tyre size coupled with the fact that Rav suspension is slightly harder than most cars. Having had several GT models I suppose I am used to firm suspension. I went to Toyota in 1991 starting with a 1600cc Carina Auto 4 door. Consuption over 72K 42mpg new front pads at 64K and two new front tyres at 68K. In 1998 swapped for imported 1995 Celica 2000cc Auto. averaged 40mpg fantastic car. From that you may deduce that I am a fairly careful driver. In 1992 changed for a Rav4 GX 5 door auto 2000cc as I was struggling getting my 4yr old and 2 yr old grandchildren in and out of the Celica. Average over 48K 28.6 mpg. New XT5 2000cc auto delivered on 29th Nov so have only covered 500miles so hopefully still building my average up which at the moment is 28.3 but will not be suprised if thats as good as it gets.

Cheers N.....

Hi Baz

Hi

My on dash computer recons 43 ish with the 138 diesel but in reality it is nearer 38mpg. I agree that the front part of the parcel shelf is naff.

I like the firm suspension.
