My 2004 Avensis 2.0 D4d Not So Loud Screeching Sound Coming From The E

Hi guys, I am new to the forum and I would like a little help if anyone maybe knows of my problem.

First off a little intro, I am from the UK but I live in the Czech Republic.

I have a 2004 Toyota Avensis 2.0 D4D wagon. The car was imported from Germany and I am the second owner and it’s done 33,000 Kms.

I have 2 little niggles that are bothering me, the first is more important to me and the second is not such an issue.

The first issue is a not so loud kind of screeching sound coming from the engine when I accelerate from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th gear, that is when I hear it more often. I have also heard it a few times when accelerating in lower gears. It seems to come from what I can tell the right hand side of the engine bay. I have tried revving the engine when the car is at a standstill but I cannot hear the sound. The sound cannot be heard when the car is at cruising speed and it does not go when the engine has warmed up. Could this sound be related to the CAM belt?? Maybe needs adjusting or something?

My Second issue as I said is not so important and I am unsure if it is related to my first issue, maybe it could be. But when I turn the steering wheel full lock to the left or right I get a quite loud screeching sound, like the tyres are rubbing on some belt or something. This only happens on full lock and when the car is stationary. Also the wheel size is the standard 16 inch that comes with the car.

I know it’s quite a lot of information, but I hope someone can help. So that I have some kind of guidance for getting both issues fixed.

Thanks guys.

Not sure about your first prob but I think the 2nd relates to the power steering, When your steering wheel is on full lock, the noise could be a hydraulic bleed valve stopping the power steering from trying to push the wheels past their full travel. Mine does it as well.

It sounds like your drive belt (not cam belt)is slipping this would give the simptoms you describe check the tightness of the belt

Great, thanks guys, so I shouldn't worry too much about the steering. I will have to look into getting the drive belt ajusted

Thanks for your help.
