Wheel Bearing Problem...... I Think!

:help: Im having some trouble with the front left wheel on my 1994 corolla, had some knocking noises a bit back and changed the front anti-roll-bar links and bushes but didnt really sort it. then about 2 weeks back i got the odd scraping noise after braking but it would go after flicking the steering wheel from left to right a couple of times. now the left wheel is getting very hot after even a short journey and if you jack up the car the wheel is difficult to spin, its like the brakes are sticking( it has new brake pads ) but there is no sign of fluid leakage, im thinking the wheel bearing could be shot as there is slight play in the wheel also, would this cause the whole hub assembly to overheat...the alloy wheel is even hot to touch and getting a burnt smell from the general area.......car is now parked and want to get it sorted the weekend....anyone had a similiar problem with either the brakes or wheel bearings

Hi

I would check the brake caliper, it might have seized, which would explain the smell and difficulty while trying to spinn the wheel.

If not the caliper, I would check the velocity joint, i had a case where the joint was shot (beerings in it disintegrated) and was making knocking grinding noise.

Hope it helps

I have a 1991 Geo Prizm which is the same car as the Toyoa Corolla of the same year. Anyway, I just had the drivers side wheel bearing fixed yesterday. For me, it made the car make a knocking noise when I turned and hit a bump, like pulling into a driveway thats higher then the road. Even more noticable, was that at low speeds like 30mph or lower the car would wobble back and forth. I thought it was a bent rim, but turned out to be a bad wheel bearing. My car never got really hot or anything like that, so I would say, if you car does not wobble when driving slow, then its not the wheel bearing, but instead something with your brakes.
