Fuel economy round town, stopping/starting putting your foot down is nasty, even on an na.. welcome to the club!

On my 1990 NA, I get:

Mainly motorway driving+mixed: 340 miles -> 34mpg

Mainly city driving+mixed: 270 miles -> 27mpg

I think it can get even worse than that if you did all city driving. I'm sure it could go down to 230 easily.

By the way, my car is (apparently) running rich, so I'm sure I could get even better MPG with a nice new O2 sensor!!

Your definately not getting as many miles as you should for a full tank. the lowest I get round town is 200 miles but I have had as many as 370 on the motorway.

Anyway, I'd check to see if one of your brake calipers has siezed (a common problem on the MR2 apparently) and also check that your tire pressures are correct.

I dont think the problem will be rich mixture but just to make sure take one of the sparkplugs out and have a look at the colour, if the mixture is rich the centre part of the plug will look black. If you are running rich check the O2 sensor and the manifold pressure sensor.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that was the problem then. My tires usually need a top up about once a month so its worth checking the pressure regularly.
