Power Heater

I have an Avensis D4D T- Spirit

there is a power heater switch installed which illuminates when pressed, which would in my view indicate that this is installed , but it does not work, so I asked at my local dealership and was told that the power heater is not installed in UK models but that Toyota fit the switch instead of a blanking plate, I find this unbelievable. has anyone else heard of this?

I've has a similar experience with my T4. The manual says that UK models don't have the power heater. Mine has the same switch, next to the mirror controls, which lights up when pressed. I thought happy days, mine has the heater, but it was only over the last few months in the colder weather that I realised the switch does nothing. There isn't much heat off the light!!

i was told you need to put blowers on max, temp set to high (not on auto) and the outside temp needs to be less than 8 degrees. then press the button.

Hi Matty

Yes those are the instructions in the manual, but when I complained that my power heater was not working the dealer told me that uk models dont have the power heater innards, just the switch. weird or what!. does your power heater work, is there anyone in the UK with a working power heater?

maybe its in my mind :) but i do think it seems to heat up alot quicker than when it isnt depressed. but maybe thats because i have everything on max. generally when i think i am using the power heater, warm air comes out of the blowers about 1 min after starting up. and that is this weeks weather - approx 5 degrees. what is yours like?

i will try heaters and blowers on max tomorrow without the button pressed in and let you know what i think.

Hi Matty

I tried mine this morning 12 december, 5 degrees outside, blower on full, temp on HI, button depressed and it was still a good 6 or 7 minutes before any warm air coming through, it actually takes longer to heat up than an old Corsa I used to own

well i tried mine as well without the button pressed and there didnt seem much (if any) difference than with the button pressed. so at the moment i agree that there probably isnt anything behind the button.

mine definetly has warm air coming through within 1 min or so. maybe there are other factors involved. my car is chipped but i dont think that should affect anything do you?

Was just looking at mine, what symbol is on your switch? If its 3 wavy vertical lines, its your heated door mirror switch lol, early T3's had the switch for heaters, but it was changed sometime in 2005 for ther mirrors, might explain why you cant feel the difference, try putting yer hand on the exterior mirror after 5 mins!!

That would make sense, as it is beside the mirror controls

I thought that the mirror heaters worked from the rear windscreen heater button, and automatically functioned with the rear screen. I'd be pretty impressed if the two could be activated independently of one another.

My D4D 2.2 DCAT has the heater. Is is put on by pressing the button with 3 vertical up-waived arrows.

Warm air appers after ~2 min, normal working temp of coolant reached after ~3 km of driving (or 5-7 min).

The heated mirrors do work of the rear heated screen i have just a blanking plate by my mirrors, cos mines petrol put on rear heated screen and within seconds the mirror glass is warm. Mine is a 2004 54 plate just add.

My 05 D4D Colour COllection has one fitted and, as my wife found out, it works exactly as it should do. I nipped into work, left her in the car, came back a couple of minutes later and it was like stepping into a !Removed! sauna. (minus about 10mpg too!)
