yeah your right, it did cost something stupid... i believe around£180,000, some of you probably remember Oli who used to be on the site who had a Blue yaris t-sport, well he rung the company that built the yaris with the 1.8 VVTI-L engine in and they told him it cost that much to do. his responce was "i could buy a ferrari for that much" lol he then went and bought a celica t-sport, and now has a Evo 8 FQ 350 which he has had tuned to 398 bhp, not bad to say he is only 24, lol

how the hell could it cost 180k to do...some billy bull there id say. To put a bike engine in an old mini cost 40k for development and parts etc. I know its different but surely its a close enough swap...both fwd etc(not saying its an easy swap tho)

i'd say 180k was bull.

the VW mob stick Vr6 engines in polos for about £10k and you can stick a 2.0 honda vtec in a mini for less than that and i'd say both of those were at least as big a job as the yaris conversion.

40k for bike engine in mini is rubbish also as can be done for lots less! You can buy the parts in and do yourself for like under 7k or summit silly and thats buyin like a kit rather than the individual parts which would prob be cheaper still! But yeah no one would have paid 180k to have that done!

40k was a figure i read and also heard on fifth gear...it was a total of development, custom made rear subframe, links, shafts etc and man hours to make the first of its kind. This was a twin haybusa engined one btw..think it was 380bhp and 4wd so id say 40k isnt far off from scratch. I am aware that now you can buy the kit for sub 10k for rwd single bike engined ones which isnt bad tbh for the sheer thrill of it.

o rite yeah fair enough that is much more comparable to this example my bad! But yeah i suppose a mini is somewhat easier as atleast work was done before atleast similar to it. But still no way near 180k! No one would follow that through! No one in there right mind! For that you could put any engine in the world in there surely!? Or you wouldnt even bother!

We were just letting you know the figures that were going about, we didn't say they were the truth!

Spose! Some website i have seen offers a glanza/starlet 1.3 engine swap? I think it's a turbo also? They say this is much more tuneable! I can't find the website for the life of me atm but it is around!

the glanza engine is great for tuning. i was gonna get a glanza but decided on the yaris. lots of people get them up to 250bhp and the old starlet turbo engine(ep82) i have seen with 300bhp!!!!lol alot from a 1.3

Im guessing the 215k for glanza engine conversion is a joke :P But yeah i can't find the site i saw it on now!!! But if a company was offering it as an in house conversion it can't be too hard!

what ever buget you have for an engine conversion......double it

i set out thinking the 3s in the rolla was only going to cost 5K, it took nearer 13K but thats because it included every thing.

dont just count the cost of the engine and getting it in there, you have to think about parts that may need specialist fabrication, eg drive shafts. also you need to look at brakes and suspension, even if you have uprated springs anbd shocks now they may not be up to the job if the new engine weighs more.

also be prepared for an electrical nightmare. the yaris' ecu is tied into a lot of other stuff and needs to be left in but the new ecu must be wired in so it supplies the nessesary info for the stock ecu.

its all doable but takes time and money

Very easily dear Kev.

If you look at the top of the page, a quote (apparently), of £180,000 was made for an engine swap.

I would hope that is 2 zero's too many, otherwise I could purchase a a T-sport, have it gutted and tuned by TRD in to some phat 3 litre monster or the like.

Or just get a Ford GT40...

Yeah, personally I'd rather get a new Ferrari & put a deposit down on load of houses with the change instead of making a slow car a bit faster, but I still haven't got a clue what the 1st comment I quoted meant

I find it highly amusing that anyone thinks that the amount of money mentioned for this engine conversion is correct. It is obviously either a misunderstanding or a practical joke.

I think thats what he means. :D
