Considering The T-sport

Hi Ive a E12 1.4 corolla at the moment but yesterday when I was talking to my insurer I asked how much for the Tsport if I was to swop over. I got a nice reply and am now seriously considering the change up. Thinking about getting a 5 door 02 model. Can anybdy offer advise on the Tsport in general. I know the specs etc but are there any real world common problems with these? I like my car at the moment but there is just no power in the low revs which can be a little annoying so the T-Sport is the natural step up as far as I can see. Any help greatly appreciated.

A quick search of the forum will through up a ton of issues that people have had with the 1st Tsports. Mostly little niggly things but one or two more annoying but that's life with cars, not just Toyota!

If your budget will stretch to it, try and pick up a facelifted model, I think late 04 was when they appeared but someone more knowledgeable will put me right on that. The facelift takes care of the niggles and presents the car as it should have been in the 1st place, in my opinion anyway.

I had a 52 plate and traded it for an 05 facelifted model 8 months ago and the difference between the cars is marked.

Happy hunting

Not so sure about the niggles being ironed out on the facelift model.

Mine has the grating clutch (or it will have until it goes in to be fixed) and the radio looks like it was fit by a 2nd year YTS student.

It's an 04 model, and looks and drives just great. But no sorry it still has niggles...... but as you say so do many other cars.

@ rhaines - thanks for the offer but your prob a bit far away for me. And Im looking for the 5 door model. Ive gotten used to not having to wait for people to get in the back of the car. The five door is rare enough after 2003 so il be looking for the pre facelift. At the moment Ive only the money my own car will fetch plus another 2k or so, so im limited to about 01-53 reg tsport.

Aside from the gearbox is there anything else to be aware of?

Thanks for the help so far, il do a quick search now, see what comes up.

Generally the car is sound,

Dashboard in some has been known to warp, mine has a tiny bit with the cold weather, but not enough for me to notice, to busy watching whats coming up ahead when i'm giving it some!!

Clutch and Gearbox, some people have had problems but on my 03 pre facelift i've had no probs what so ever, have had it for a year now and i hammer the living day lights out of her. She has just topped 35K so if something was gonna play up it would have played up by now.

People have had a few lift bolts snapping resulting in either sticking in lift or no lift what so ever (not sure which one) Nothing major, go to wiki and type in the 2zz-ge engine and it tells you what the bolt was that caused it. That particular problem was only on the first few cts that came out so you won't have to worry.

Your only problem is these cars are a bit specialist, so when things go wrong this is the only place you can come to see what others have had problems with too. A rule of thumb if your not happy your always gonna shout about it, if your happy you say sod all!!!

Hope that helps!!! Happy CTS Hunting!!!

Just bought an 05 tsport, I had a prefacelift 04 5 door tsport and enjoyed it alot.

I cant wait to pick up tsport it all came flooding back driving it today had a go in a compresor as well although power was there the lift just makes it a joy so decided on tsport.

Get one soon you will enjoy it, if you get prefcelift you will need to get it lowered if itss not done already, they dont hold well, I didnt realise just how much they did struggle untill today the face lift seems a bit lower and has front and rear dampeners seems to imrove it alot
