does anybody know if its possible to fit a Blacktop engine from a Levin into a G6. As far as I can tell they are virtually the same car,gearbox, etc and im assuming they should have the same engine mountings. Can anybody enlighten me on this and how much trouble would i be likely to have. Would da rest of da corolla be able to handle d engine or would i need to do more work than i think.

what you want to look out for is gearbox compatiblility, G6 g'box won't just fit straight onto an 4A-GE 20v, cbecause the g6 engine is a 4E-FE different engines! however in theory a G6R will take a 4A-GE 20V blacktop dropped straight in (in theory) thats only because the G6R has the 4A-FE, same engine basically (bar the cylinder head and few other parts). But thats only my understanding of it...

It will definitely go in - though as others have said it will take some work. I'm not sure about engine mounts but that should not be too big a problem.

Don't think you will get away with just swapping the engine - think about having to connect all the electrics and you will need the 20v ECU. Best to use the gearbox that is designed to take the power that the 20v will put out too - from what I've been told the 6 speed G6 box isn't up to handling the extra power. Don't forget that having that extra power will put greater stress on the suspension system and the braking system - you will be looking to upgrade both of these. If you do decide to go ahead with the transplant think about putting a new cambelt on the engine before it goes into the G6 - a new clutch would also be a good thing to do at that time.

Unless you are absolutely sure that you want go ahead I would suggest that you save your cash and buy a car that already has the power output you want - it's by far the easiest and cheapest way of getting the extra BHP

I have a 4A-GZE in my Corolla which was transplanted in June 3 years ago - I'm still working on the project - there is always something else to be improved - something else that wants cash spent on it. You might like to have a look at my website to see what I've had to do to get Corolla how I wanted it.

And lastly - whatever your budget is for doing the transplant - double it and then add some more - and I'm not joking - it's not a cheap option.

Ya im pretty sure I wanna go to the hassle. If about €5000 would cover the job I would be more than happy.I have already found a donar engine complete with ecu,wiring loom etc, basically all the parts i need. My plan is to leave the bodywork pretty much standard except for a set of wider wheels,the standard 175 14s aint exactly the greatest handling tyres in the world. She'll be one hell of a sleeper car. Id love nothing more than to wipe da smile off the faces of all them type R owners.

What do u think are the odds of being able to find completely adjustable coilovers, ive tried almost every website this side of bangladesh and ive yet to find anyone that does more than just springs.

keep checking eBay, i saw a set on there for the ae111 last week, from hongkong,(second hande mind) but they looked good at least, for around £300 (dunno what that is in euros sorry) but they do exist, just difficult to track down

Sorry, but a type R would still rape you. My Vr6 can only just about see them off...and its tight.

My Levin pretty much keeps up with my friends VR6, so if you can beat Type-R's in a VR6 (which I doubt) than a 20v will be quite closely matched.

Ever heard of Forced Induction? ;) got a Z-engineering stage one blower on it.

I'd like to also point out it made 193hp on the rollers pretty much standard. Much more than the apprent stock figure of 174hp. Also, mine is a late VR6 OBDII (95.5-98) which usually give an extra 10-15 ponies than an early VR6 (92-95.5). Quoted power figure for a type R is 198hp i believe.

The 20V is about 150 pushing it in reality. I know they are a lot lower than the quoted power figures.

With regards to the Type R....a lightly modded VR6 is more than a match for it mainly due to the ***** poor amount of torque that the v tech 4 pot kicks out. Once you slap a set of coilovers on a VR6 its goodbye to sloppy handling and hello rails.

Type R's have an idiotic power band and have a stupidly close ratio gear box meaning at anything over the national speed limit a type r would be left although it is pretty much even stevens til then.

You're right, they arn't amazing standard but more than enough to suprise quite a few people. Considering the chassis and engine are 14 years old its testament to VW that they can still keep pace with brand new 'performance' FWD cars.

And considering that my Levin is bog standard, with 1200cc less and would beat a VR6 on track (better braking and handling), it's a testament to Toyota's far superior technology and engineering.

The only good thing about VR6's are the noise. My mate lent me his for a few days and i fell in love with the sound, the power is good, but to term them as 'performance' cars is pushing it a bit. Autobhan cruisers.

All that said, my Levin is off the road with an electrical gremlin and my mates VR6 never gives him any problems.

In regards to the power of the AE111 20v, i don't know if it will beat a type-r but i know it definately kicks a Civic VTI B16!

I did pen 'performance' sarasticly, mainly due to the technological advances that are now in modern day cars. I didn't quote a VR6 as a performance car, just that it can keep up with performance orientated cars of today and with a few mods here and there they are a great bang for buck motor. They do have thier flaws though such as the rear suspension set up, and i agree with the inital lack of output for the cc's the car has.

I love toyota too, but the corolla i owned was in no way in the same league of build quality or reliability.

I was very close to dropping a 4AGZE into my rolla but opted to go for a standard car with a similar final output for a lot less money which meant i could use the money i was going to drop on the rolla on the VR.

Its all about what you want though in the end...i just fancied a change, I got bored of my rolla after just over 2 years of problem free driving other than oil guzzling!
