Gen 6: Gt And St Suspension Differences

Hello all,

I've got a 1996 ST, and the front hubs (well bearings) are playing up.

A new bearing kit didn't seem to do the job, so I'm looking round for a set of ST hubs.

But for some reason GT bits seem to be much more common than ST bits in the usual second hand places.

So I'm wondering whether GT hubs would be compatable or not.

I suspect the steering, ball joint and strut connections are the same, but I'm a bit worried about the brake calipers and the drive shaft thickness/teeth numbers.

So, can anyone confirm or deny whether the hubs are interchangable between the ST and GT Celica, and if not, how much work would be involved to swap them over?

Car is manual btw, with ABS.

Thanks,

Ian

bump

does no-one have any knowledge of this?

I thought it was quite a simple question tbh, although I suspect this forum isn't very ST orientated.

Not personally looked at them in the flesh but looking at the EPC for UK cars both ST and GT appear to have the same part numbers for steering knuckle, hub bearing etc. Just need to make sure you get the same year and abs version as your car and you should be ok. Just make sure it's not a superstrut GT i.e. JDM SS2/3 that your taking parts from as they will be different.

If let me know the VIN number for your car I can look up part numbers for you and tell you if their ST/GT specific, drop me a PM.

Cheers Sketchy,

been off this for a while, but comparing a GT hub (1994 3S-GE with ABS) to my ST hub (1996 7A-FE with ABS) there virtually identical - apart from the larger dust shield.

They have the same code stamped on the hub cast, and bearing sizes inside all match up.

So I think I'll go with this GT hub for a bit, and see what happens.

For £30, it's cheaper than the bearing kit from Fensport, but it needs new ball joints I think.

Thanks,

Ian
