2 Day Test Drive - Leaves Questions...?

Recommended Posts

So this weekend I had an Aygo Sport on a 2 day test drive, am I going to buy one? I’m not sure…

Things I liked:

-Engine note is addictive. Can’t help but blip the throttle at traffic lights. Chav I know :help:

-Great fun to chuck around corners and roundabouts

-Awesome for driving in town, so easy to park and manoeuvre its unreal. Any parking space is a doddle

-Great short gearchange

-Suprisingly spacious inside and the boot is just the right size for shopping bags…

-Plenty quick enough on the motorway once up to speed.

:yahoo:

Things I’m not so sure about and leave a few questions:

-Slippy unsupportive seats. I found myself bracing against the steering wheel and with my legs on the centre console. Can the seats be improved?

-Plastic trim on the doors is hideous. I know it’s a cheap car but I really like the plastic on the dash but the handles to close the door are awful. Is there replacements available? Anybody had a retrim?

-Heater control console equally as ugly and the whole glowing in the dark thing is just off putting

-I couldn’t help but rag the poor little thing every where I went. Surely MPG is going to suffer. Any ideas how bad it would be?

-Although I loved the engine note I think I could get tired of it (particularly with a hangover) plus it’s a bit noisy on the motorway.

- smidge to much body roll (but only a smidge). lowering springs improve this?

If anybody could answer any of the questions about my reservations I would be grateful. It might just swing it one way or the other….

I'm afraid this doesn't get any better, although the headrests are quite good

people i know think this is a good feature, but it took a while for me to get used to it

My best is 52mpg, worst is low 40's. Had a Leon Cupra before the Aygo so i don't do 'driving Miss Daisy'

official TTE are pricey, and the ride is quite firm already so it depends if you are looking for so-so-comfort or pricey firm ride

Thanks Dangermouse,

One other thought...

The brakes on the demo were awesome. it stopped double quick. Are the brakes generally good on the aygo or was it just because it had so few miles on the clock (about 1400)?

yea brakes are really good, they shouldnt get worse as time goes on if so then they'll probs need new brake pads n whatnot.

Mines done 15,000 miles and had its 10,000 mile service and the brakes are as good as the day i got it.

Brakes were fine when I took the Aygo on the track a while ago  Really all modern Toyotas seem to have decent brakes, at least for one stop. Could try Green Stuff pads for the smaller cars to reduce fade, but I think the Aygo is so light you'd have to be very hard on the brakes before they would give up.

Now the engine has loosened up I'm getting 52-60mpg depending on the percentage of in-town driving, but I am driving in a chilled out, relaxed fashion :D

Paul.

heres my thoughts on q's.

Had my Aygo for 7 months now and am lurvin it, still not bored of engine note, and am pleased I am not the only wanna be chav who wants to rev it at lights..lol, I dont find it noisey on motorway although i do blast my sound system out, still getting good mpg, and I drive it like my hairs on fire, as for body roll, well maybe i am weird but I like that too, part of the fun..lol. I do agree with ugly inside doors, and mine are looking worse with wear and tear but I do like the other interior, I was drooling over a brand new MR2 the other day (my next or maybe even 2nd car..lol) but the interior compared to Aygo seemed dated and boring, brakes still fantastic, still havent got used to them and surprised I aint got whiplash yet..lol.. I am sure if you do buy an Aygo you wont regret it!

thanks everyone!

I'm going to have along hard think about it. The salesman at Mr. T promised me there would be more coming on to the second hand market in the new year and expected prices to fall a bit. Maybe I will hang around a bit and see if that is true.

Just had to take my current car to the garage again... its getting expensive :crybaby:
