Abs Light -again

Abs light on my 2001 D4D comes on when I start up and mostly stays on ,although around 10% of the time it does not come on at start up but after I've driven a mile or so .My local garage checked it on their "generic" diagnostic machine but they could not find out the cause .They suggested I visit a Toyota dealer so that this can be checked out .I've been through the fuses next to the steering wheel but all seem OK .

Any comments or tips please ?

if you have a multi meter you could check each sensor yourself find the one with a totaly different reading and thats probably the fault {checking resistance }

Thanks for that

You're suggesting that a wheel sensor may be knackered ?

Is this a big/expensive job ?

Hi, I would also agree with wheel sensors but it may also be worth making sure your batttery is good as the light can come on with low volts caused by poor Battery or alternator (not all cars but some)

Cheers

when you say is it expensive is anything cheap on a toyota :D yes i would suspect a sensor .but there not difficult to check with a meter and most are quite easy to fit if they arn,t seized in .a sensor i would expect to be between £60 to £160 bit of a range but id shop about once you khow that is the fault

Battery could be the main culprit, changing to a fresh Battery should cure the issue.

cr@p on a sensor power wash each wheel to clean the debris and dust

Battery is a big problem when the volts drop abs goes off check this with any good garage

Thanks everybody .

Just checked my Battery with my very simple meter .

Before start-up 12.46 volts

Immediately after start up on a frosty morning ,engine turned off after starting 12.46 volts

After start up engine running with all accessories ,lights etc turned on 14.26 volts .

Seems OK to me .What do you guys think ?

if on your meter you have resistance {ohms}you can check each sensor this the best way to go cos a sensor is the most common fault as it is open to the elements
