Rav 4 Deisel

2 ltre deisel rav 46000 miles, fully serviced by Toyota dealer.Travelling at 60mph red oil light flashed on,stopped the car within 500 metres.checked the oil level,only 4mm below normal. Topped the oil up, started the engine.sounded noisy.rang Toyota, took car the next morning to be told the engine needs a complete stripdown due to piston failure and big end bearings.Has enyone else had this problem? I bought this car because of all the good reports of engines doing 100000 miles trouble free.I feel very let down and will feel even worse when the bill comes in Thee car is 36months old.

Hi I have just had a similar problem with a 4 year old Nissan van only it was the cambelt that broke but it still needed a engine rebuild, so i got on to Nissan customer services supplied them with copies of service history and after many weeks of e-mails got them to stump up 40% as a good will gesture as long as it was repaired at a Nissan dealer .Still cost a lot but done with genuine parts .Its got to be worth an e-mail or phone call to Toyota customer services good luck
