Clutch/abs

Hello everybody,

I got a new blueprint clutch fitted the other day on my 96 Gen6 ST202 at a cost of £285, previous clutch was slipping badly but new one is a dream. I have 2 questions. My first question is will the new clutch still smell (just like it did when it was slipping) for a while after it's been fitted and secondly when I got the car back the ABS light won't go out? The garage is closed for the festive period and the brakes feel fine, any suggestions?

Thanks

Terry

Clutches only smell when their slipping and burning. Unless your launching the car about or riding the clutch on steep hills it should not be slipping to the point of smelling. You might need to adjust the freeplay on the clutch pedal if this is too low then the clutch will be being held out when the pedal is up and hence cause slipping. See below for adjustment instructions

As for the ABS light it's likely that they either damaged one of the ABS sensors when removing/refitting the drive shafts or when refitting they didn't seat the abs cover ring correctly which holds the sensor away from the shaft causing it to read incorrectly

Theres a sticky at the top of the celica forum about ABS go through that and find out the ABS error code your getting.

Thanks for the reply and diagram mate. I've been on to the said garage and he's trying to use the usual must have already been broke excuse. But I've stuck to my gun's and he's going to look at the clutch tomorrow and get the ABS sorted when his brake specialist returns to work next week after the festive break. I'll let you know how I get on.

Cool, let us know how you get on.

Just so you know the toyota ABS sensors are pretty fragile does't take much to break them. Check the ABS fault code before you take it in if it shows a faulty sensor chances are they knocked it whilst working on the car. Think replacements are about £40 each from TCB. Plus you'll know if they start talking porkeys.

It's quite common for the ABS sensors to be damaged during such work, they might have over stretched the wiring when moving the hubs to get the driveshafts out or if they actually took the sensors off it's pretty much a given that they damaged them, I've yet to see someone remove an old Toyota ABS sensor and have it still functional on refitting...

Stick to your guns and make them pay up. I know a few people who have had the same thing happen at toyota dealers and following the usual squirming they've always replaced them.
