Drilled a hole in the air box, linked 60mm ducting hose stuff to the bottom. Drilled a hole in that plastic engine guard at the bottom and attached my air intake piece from my old focus! Definately works! The pick-up is noticeable. :toast:

The best thing about it is that this is 1 of 2 intakes. Looking to link one from the front, but havent got around to lookin at it yet

Cheers for your quick reply! Yeh i do agree. Think it would only be large puddles etc i need to watch out for. Oh and i can still drive over speed bumps, just enough clearance :) Is it possible to put a cold air feed pipe from the front of the car, doesnt seem to be alot of room??? If you have any ideas.......

My primary concern would be that if you are following someone, you are going to get the spray from their car straight in there.. Looks like it'll do the trick though...

I did the same with my air box, then i got a K&N induction kit with the cold air feed from underneath and it was noticably better still :)

Looks good However...

Renault used to use a similar design on the Espace until they started getting loads of warrenty engine replacements due to water drowning... :D

Good idea if your car is in a mostly dry country pains for england, you find your air filter also cloggs up a lot more quickly thanks to our poo covered roads :ffs:

That's true. If you get water going in you're looking at worst a engine replacement. Ask your self is it worth it? A normal induction ket with a cold air feed like yours would be better IMO.

Thanks for your all your replies! TBH i was really trying to stay away from the induction kits, i prefer the panel filter i have atm. (even though its HKS :( ) Soon to be replaced with the TRD one.

What i was wondering, with the iduction kit for the celica, where do they route the air feed?

the K&N 57i Kit comes with a flexible hose and a rubber scoop that you can fix to the plastic undertray, as you have already done. You could just use the feed you have put in already, (or both!)

I have that setup, it works well

I had your setup with a Pipercross Panel filter, but the K&N induction gives better throttle response (and a much cooler sound :) )

To be honest.. With mine all i did was drop a K&N into the old box and it has made a difference to the performance... Not too much but my economy is better and it sounds really nice... Had some rev issues at the begining... (hunting a little) but I left it alone and it seems to be ok now... I would like a better cold air feed but to be honest... With all the problems she gives me now I don't think I can afford anymore... lol

Hi, This is a good thread, some good ideas, I too have a 1.8 ST gen 6, looking to replace stock air box for a cone filter which should bolt straight onto the inlet pipe before the air flow meter. My problem is matching the sizes of the pipes and also the under bonnet temp is higher than the stock air box inlet which goes under the box and towards the headlamp as previously mentioned, which is significantly cooler than the inlet manifold pipe.

How can I get cold air to a cone filter just dragging any air in the engine compartment without using the old box as some sort of screen?

Also, anyone used these so called piggy back tuning boxes? The generic ones than can be reprogrammed by downloading the ECU parameters via the diagnostics and adjusting the program in the piggy back to suit?

Anyone know the pin outs for the ECU connections used in the piggy back process? i.e. power supply, signals for:- injectors, lambda, air temp, trottle position, mass air flow?

Sorry for all the questions but am I being stupid? is the ST just under powered in the UK compared to Japan who use 100 octane fuel?

I heard that ANY induction or tuning mod requires that the ECU is 'reset' to take advantage of the new parameters? heard you should remove fuses etc, surely just removing the Battery leads and shorting the leads together to dump any memory voltage should suffice.

I've noticed many people seem to complain about lack of power... Personally mine is fast enough.. I've recently taken her near 140 on the M3 and IMO that's fast enough... They handle well so if you're a good driver you don't need 500BHP and nitrosturboramsuperchargethingymabobs..At the end of the day... Where is there an autobahn in the UK and how many of us take regular trips to Germany???

Sorry it's early and I'm working nites.. Just a little tetchy I think...lol
