I don't know if anyone can shed any light on this but up until 2 days ago my fuel door release was working fine. It now doesnt open the fuel door and feels like its gone slack. How do I get to the wires that control this to see if it has snapped or just come apart etc.? Which direction does it run from the drivers side floor lever? Help me please because this I can't put any fuel in as I cannot release the catch.

Regards

PS It is a 1996 6th Generation Celica.

I had a bit of a problem with mine the other day and you can reach the catch if you remove the electric aerial from inside the boot and put your hand in,you can also check if anything has come adrift.

  • 3 weeks later...

a problem with 6th gen fuel cap covers, is they can sometimes get stiff,

and all is required is put some WD40 on the catch that grips the fuel cap

cover, if its stuck-shut get a mate to hold the handle up in the car when you

`who you can trust` get a screwdriver and gently `prise` the lid open,

remember to protect the bodywork and cover the screwdriverwith tape to

avoid any damage, not sure if thats your problem, but the handle inside the

car will feel loose, cos the latch mechanism is stuck, hope this helps

you can adjust the length of the rod that holds it shut also by adjusting the 2 nuts that hold it in place , 1 is visible on the outside , you need to remove the left side boot covers to gain access to the 2nd nut unfortunately
