St162: Over Drive Question?

Hi all,

Im sure this question has been asked before. ST162 Auto.

For in-town driving is it more economical to drive the car with OD (OFF) or (ON)? with it OFF there are only 3 gears @ higher ratios. ON allows overdrive into 4th gears and according to manual having OD (ON) allows more fuel economy and a quiter drive.

I appreciate the function of the ECT gearbox NORMAL & POWER.

TIA

I'd say OD on, pretty much all the time. In town its not like you're that likely to get up into 4th much, but i'd prefer to have it available rather than increasing the revs to a lesser economy level!

PS: still can't find that !Removed! manual!

OD on all the time really........unless you're going up a hill and towing a caravan.

I ( and everyone I know with an Auto ) go by this philosophy. O/D off is the option - not O/D on. That's why the O/D off has a dash indicator light .

So in conclusion:

OD on is where the indicator [O/D off] does NOT illuminate and thus 4 gears-better economy and smoother engine operation.

When the O/D button is Depressed the [O/D off] light will illuminate. - 3 gears, higher revving possible in each gear and less fuel friendly.

TIA
