Just got my new Aygo Terra red 5dr in the last few hours.A bit surprised at the lack of toys-sacrificing the c/l,s/r,e/w, AND REV COUNTER (!) of my Cinquecento Sporting -however I think I'll grow to LOVE it!A bit shocked at the lack of accelerator pedal travel -then discovered that the mat (I didnt realise the dealer had bunged a set in for me as there was a paper one there too...)was blocking most of its travel.Engine note is SOOOOoooooo addictive and yes you cant help playing the hooligan revving it in the driveway/at the lights etc....A bit cautious about the 155s in the wet ...need I be?

Well don't go mad, but even though we've been having torrential rain here in the south of England in this last week the Aygo coped just fine.

It seems better than my old 1l Yaris GS at keeping composed when there is a lot of water on the road.

out of interest Paul, how do you find it compared to the Yaris?

Smaller engine, smaller car etc.

Well maybe I could comment on that one as my wife had an old shape Yaris 1 litre(2002?)In comparison to the Aygo (brief enough experience of the latter)I would say the Aygo probably beats the Yaris in almost every concieveable way eg speed ,handling, economy, solid, well built feel(build quality)etc. However the Yaris would obviously have more equipment as standard and be roomier in the luggage compartment.

In fact my missus currently drives a new 06 Yaris one litre which is a huge bus of a yoke -almost same size as Corrolla 5 dr(heck feels like a VW Golf to drive)-engine is fun to rev a bit -not nearly as good as in Aygos -but on a recent trip to England (We're Irish) it struggled badly on the motorways and hills needing 4th and sometimes even 3rd to keep up with the traffic at high speed.Economy probably not as good as old Yaris in real world either.Neither Yaris was really nice to drive 'in a hurry' and could be quite scary- but ok (especially the new one)if not pressing on flat out -say at 65-75% on a country road.

Im looking forward to really getting to know my Aygo.I have a feeling it could be a very tyre screechingly (155s) loud experience!Should save a lot on my fuel .Do 1800 miles a month so will save at least 20-40 £/Euro on my petrol compared with the Cinqueceno Sportings lack lustre 42-46mpg)(Used drive 106/AX 1.4/Daihatsu Charade 1litre(3 cylinder!!!) diesels which returned mid 60s mpg all the time)

So whats the most mpg anybody here has got in their Aygo?I know that newspaper got 83mpg or something....

Best MPG i have got is 51. Only done 7000 miles, so probably won't get higher figures until 10000+

Well the engine is more or less the same capacity, but of course with the Aygo you only get the three cylinders whereas the old Yaris 1l had four.

But I agree with ytareh, although the Aygo I have is more basic than the Yaris GS, it drives and handles much better. Firstly the gearbox is a lot longer so in the Aygo you just select 3rd at 30mph where in the Yaris you would be getting into 5th. The long Aygo fifth gear really helps economy and engine noise on the motorway. If anything, the Aygo is faster to 60 as it is comfortably lighter than the Yaris for the same power.

The Aygo also holds onto corners much better where the old Yaris would understeer. And that is on thinner tyres too.

Day 2 of ownership.Rear seat up boot space is poor to begin with and the high loading lip really grates .Went shopping today and struggled to get 3 big bags of groceries loaded .The key only entry is a pain too.

Id imagine the rear seat folded down space is 90% as good as practically any small hatch so i suppose you cant complain too much.

Driving -for a short while- was pleasant. That engine growl is SOOOoooo out of character for a small car and sounds like a sports car,Brilliant!Handling seems nice enough although not really trying.5th gear is VERY long /relaxed/lazy.Must help economy greatly....

32psi is quite high for such narrow car tyres.Youd imagine it would be a recipe for massive skids in the wet at least but seems fine so far...ride is nice and supple but not spongy.Seats comfy and supportive in the rear/lower back.....

I think I will enjoy taking her out on a long run when back at work next Monday.(Mix of MWay and tiny back lanes....

Yes the boot IS small, but didn't you see this when you bought the car?

I did, so decided on the two extra doors; they only cost €300

and don't disturb the lines of the car, so they're a big plus...

AND you get the "flappy ear" windows in the rear :P

The key only entry is a pain too.

That's what you get with the "bottom of the line" ;)

But why not fit an aftermarket central locking with remote?

Can be had for only about £30 or zo, even with a folding key!
