Stalling In 1st Gear

Hi guys,

We've had our ST162 celica since 1989 which has now over 200,000 kms on the clock.

Just recently it has developed a new problem where the car will stall in first gear unless the engine is revv'd decently, which isn't very practical for day to day driving. After warming up this problem will have solved itself until the enigine has been shut off and left to cool.

Has anyone come across this problem and/or got a solution?

I presume it will have a cold start facility which will give more revs when the car is cold. I guess that isn't working. If it's a cable operated one make sure the cable hasn't broken or got stuck, if it's ECU operated try reseting the ECU by taking the EFI fuse out and pumping the brake pedal
