Just Heat Wraped My Manafold

Had a bit of a car day today and serviced my corolla with: good oil, trd oil filter, Iridium spark plugs, for life coolant, trd fuel filter, new rotor, dizzy cap, new leads, new disks all round and green stuff pads, and 4 new tyres. its been a good day for the car, like christmas all over again :thumbsup:

anyway, once i done all that i found a manafold which i got a year or more ago off eBay, its a 20v 4age tubular one i think? did the 20v 4age have tubular manafolds as standard?

I gave it a good blast on the sand blaster which brought it up like new, then i got my grinder to it to cut the 3 lugs off which were for a heat sheld. followed by some heat wrap and spent about 2 hours wrapping it up, takes !Removed! ages!

I not fitted it yet as the 2 outer holes need drilling out, the 4 ports seem to line up spot on and the 3 centre studs do to. going to finish it tomo night if i get time.

should make the engine bay temps a bit cooler and keep the gases hotter in the manafold which will help the gases get out faster.

I already have a full stainless system with only 1 silencer (the back box) which makes it breath very well and sound !Removed! crazy :D

my reason for wanting such a free flowing system is im fitting my new nitrous wet kit which i got from santa, in the next couple of weeks :thumbsup: and i plan to run around 60-80 extra bhp to start with

thats gonna look cool in your engine bay, i love wrapped pipes, gives them a functional look, i cant stand chromed engine bays

its simple science, but my crap writing would never be able to explain it so i copied from the net:

Maintaining higher exhaust temperatures throughout the system increases performance in many ways. Think of exhaust gases as a heavy liquid such as an oil additive. If the liquid were traveling down a tubular system in a cold state, it would move very slowly. If you heat the liquid, the density of the fluid changes. The liquid responds to the heat increasing its velocity. Exhaust gases respond in the same manner. Higher temperatures in a system increase the flow of the system. If the liquid is allowed to cool in the system, it slows the flow of the liquid. By this illustration, you can now see the importance of maintaining higher temperatures in an

exhaust system.

yeah same here, i hate things that look faster than they go. clean is much better than mirror finish, which reminds me i want to clean my alloy wheels up, think its time to get them in the sand blaster :thumbsup:

plus by keeping the heat in the exhaust you lower the engine bay temperature, and in turn the intake temperature, and apartently every 10 degrees you lower the intake temperature increases the hp by 1%, and everylittle helps

was just wondering if i should spray it with some sort of coating so it lasts longer? was thinking a clear hi temp spray of some kind, as may help keep it from getting damp. what do you think?

do you mean treat the wrap or the manifold, i dont really know but i think exhaust wrap is pretreated to last, but the manifold may go rusty if thats not painted, but then if you havent already its a bit late so i'll just shut up i think
