Corolla 1.6 Delayed Cold Start

Hi everybody

I have a 2006 Corola 1.6 vvt with 20 000km (around 12 000 ml) and up to now did not have any problems with the car. The only thing is that now when the weather got a bit colder, the engine runs longer before it starts. Usually the car starts right away but now it takes several seconds, to the point when I almost give up, then it shakes and starts. It happens only when the engine is cold.

I would expect this at sub-zero temperatures but not at 2 degrees C.

Has anybody had similar situation, is it normal for toyota?

I know I can take it to the dealer under warranty but I just wanted to ask you guys before I make a fool of myself.

Not sure if this helps but I have a 2005 (55) 1.6 Corolla Auto. I have had no problems at all with starting until recently with the colder weather when I have experienced a few times when the engine has needed a fair amount of turning before it would start. Never had this before with any of my previous Toyotas so not sure whether something is brewing up or not. To be honest it has only happened a few times thus far and has always started second time of asking and so I am waiting to see if anything develops.

I'd be interested to hear what your dealer says if you do decide to take it in.

Thanks for your response. The weather here has warmed and start problems haven't happened again. I was thinking that the Battery might be faulty and can't be charged 100% so in colder weather it does not have full cranking power, or a problem with spark plugs.

Anyway,I will wait and see. Other then that the engine works beautifully and I love it.
