Knocking Noise From Steering

Hi, ever since I have owned my 52 plate Corolla T Sport I have noticed a knocking noise and vibration coming from the steering. It occurs if I put the steering on full lock and then let it re-center by itself, as the steering centers, I get a series of knocking vibrations.

When I first purchased the car from my local Toyota dealer, the issue was not all that apparent, but over the last few months the vibrations have become louder and more frequent. I bought the car back in May 2006 and since then it has been back three times regarding this issue. I first took the car to my local dealer where they told me that they could not see any issue with the steering. I then decided to take the car to another dealer, they witnessed the issue and told me it was nothing to worry about, probably just abit of play in the gaitors ("a characteristic of the car" they said - their usual conclusion to most issues). But they were not willing to do anything to the car other than road test it, they said I needed to take the car back to the Toyota dealer that I purchased it from.

So I returned the car for the third time to the Toyota dealer that I purchased it from. They road tested the car again and confirmed that something was not quite right. I booked the car in for them to look at it, they said they would strip the steering down to find the issue. The car went to the dealership today, when I went to collect it they told me that the noise was coming from the 'electric motor' and that it was not faulty and therefore they would not be changing it on warranty.

Has anyone had any similar issues with their cts. Also does anybody know where I stand in regards to my warranty as its quite clear to me that something is not right. Obviously I dont want it to go wrong once the warranty has expired.

Thanks

I have had no steering issues with mine but plenty of other problems mostly minor.

get an independant opinion and take it from there if the conclusion is its not correct

Mine is a 53 T Sport, no noise from mine, they may just be fobbing you off till your warranty runs out.

Keep a note of the days that you took it in, if a problem occurs afterwards that should have been fixed under warranty, then you have proof that you asked about it before your warranty expired.

Then try and fight your case if required.
