New Owner With Problems

Hello,

I've Just Got Myself A Mk3 Single Turbo With A Manuaal Gearbox. I Got It Off A Bloke Who Has A N/a Auto And Wanted To Swap The Engine And Gearbox. It Had A Blown Diff Which I Have Changed Without Problems.

The Problems I Have Is That The Turbo Gauge Doesn't Work And Shows a Negative 4 Bar, It Shows As 0 Bar When Ignition Lights On But When Started It Goes To Negative. The Engine Management lights Up When The Engine Is Revved.

Looking At The Engine Bay It Seems That There Is A Pipe Missing From Somewhere As If You Look At The Air Filter Pipe There Is A Metal Pipe Attached But There Is Nothing Either End Of It. There Is Also A Problem With The Temp Gauge And The Senders Have No Connections Attached To Them But There Is Nothing Around To Connect Them To But A Blue Wire That Sits To The Left Of The Engine Under The Wiring Harness, This Wire Has Been Cut For No Reason Known.

The Car Was Going To Be Stripped And The Parts Used For A Kit Car But I Have Fallen In Love With It And Want To Put It Back On The Road. People Say That I'm Wasting My Time As The Paint Has Faided And Has Some Small Damage On The Rear Quarter But It Has Been Repaired It Just Needs Painting, The Leather Has Cracked On Drivers Seat And This Problem With The Engine. But I Think It Is Worth Doing Because It Only Cost Me £150 Plus The Diff At £50.

Also I Have Noticed That It Has 3 Different Tyres On And I'm Not Sure What Size Is Supposed To Be On It. They Are 205/50/16, 215/50/16 And 225/50/16

Thanks In Advance.

Mark :help:

Stock tyes, 225/50/16

Have you got an engine bay pic? It will make it easier to diagnose what is missing! it sounds like there is No BOV, meaning that you are leaking boost, hance the negative boost guage (In psi, not BAR btw ;))

Don't worry about the vacume line attatchments that come from the top of the thermostat housing, they are not meant to be conencted... the temperature sensors underneat do neet to be, is it only the one that is disconected? I *think* the wire that goes to it is blue, but I can;t remember, and I am at work so can't look!

Thanks, I Will Have A Look When I Get A Day Off. I'll Get A Few Pics When I Have A Chance To Upload Them.

What Does BOV Stand For? I'm New To Turbo Cars And I've Only Ever Had A Celica Which I Lost To My Ex When We Divorced.

I Plan To Keep The Car To Give To My Daughter When She Is Old Enough To Drive And Hope That She Will Keep It In The Family.

blow off valve .

Good luck gettin insurance for the kid

By The Time She Is Old Enough To Drive It Will Be A Classic And Be About 30 Years Old. She Is Only 3 Now. She Always Wants To Be Outside And In The Car So Think She Likes It. I Won't Be Around Long Enough To Teach Her To Drive It And Hope That Me Working On It And Her Spending Time In It And Helping Me Fix It Will Make Her Keep It For Sentimental Reasons.

On Another Note, I Went To A Breakers Yard Today Looking For Parts And Came Across A Mk1 MR2 In What Looked Like Mint Condition Only Missing A Wheel Although There Was A Spare In The Bonnet And It Was Missing A Mirror. I Did Notice The Shell Had A Bit Of Rust Underneath About 6" Long But That Was All I Could See. I Could Not Tell If The Engine Was Ok. I Asked If They Would Sell Me It And They Refused Saying It Was For Breaking Only! I Can't Understand People Who Just Destroy Decent Cars Without Trying To Fix It. :ffs: :censor:

That's Nice To Know That They Are Classics As I Thought They Had To Be Over 25 Years Old.

I Have Some Pictures But I'm Not Sure How To Post Them On Here.

Also Have A Fault Code Of 51 And 52, I've Been Told That 51 is The Throttle Position Sensor But I Can't Find Anything About Fault Code 52.
