I've ordered the Facia surround for phase 2 yaris T55406-52041-B0

I've ordered the wiring harness off eBay

I'm looking at a set of 16.5cm JBL components from eBay

I'm also looking at the autoleads rav 4 adapter

and i'm looking for the door speaker adapters but might use MDF instead

and i've got 1kg of hollow fibre on the way to fill the door panels with :-)

Yeah i took your advice and decided it was the better option.

Hollow fibre is the stuff you get in cushions, teddy bears etc.

Yeah i got the idea off some pics i saw on here, i think he used some kind of synthetic loft insulation but i could only find fibre glass stuff or rockwool, so i found this as the next best thing.

so you just stuff it into the foor through the holes till the whole door is full of it??

Wat about locking mechanisms and windows?

Cant see how it would work in the boot either.

does anyone know of any good quality but cheaper versions of dynamat? The original dynamat costs a bomb.

no you can attatch the foam onto the inside of the plastic door covers , just ensuring it isnowhere near the locking mechanism. Also with regard to the put you can just fill the spare wheel well with it and around the metal area ! it also works very well !! As for other products , dynamat is very expensive but also very good :) the best , but there is "brown bread" also quite expensive..

That hollow fibre stuff is not quite as effective but if you jam it in it will work quite well. However it blocks outside noise whereas dynamat is supposed to stop the vibrations traveling through the metal/from it flexing if i understand correctly. Dynamat should make the Speakers sound better whereas insulation will just reduce outside noise! The guy who filled his with it was doing it to reduce road noise! Behind the speaker it may work to baffle a bit but not sure it will improve the speaker performance and certainly not in the way dynamat does!

Also worth checking that insulation isn't highly flammable stuff though as that's not the best idea to fill areas around electrical equipment with highly flammable stuff! :P

yea he is right the foam wont help the sound quality from the Speakers but it will drown out the road noise very well .....

I went and bought some MDF today, i thought i'd get more than i needed 1 bit 1000mm long by 500mm wide and 2 bits 500mm square giving room for error.

I got the guy to cut the bits and he asked if i wanted the off cuts from the massive sheet, initaily i said no but then he told me i had to pay for the whole !Removed! sheet !!! :ffs: So i now have loads of MDF so i might build a few shelves depending on how i get on rebuilding mine.

No haven't done that yet, looking to get some 16.5 cm components so when i get them i will do that, tomorrow i'm going to my mates (same guy that helped me last time - see my post about rear shelf) and we are going to build a new one, also going to build some speaker boxes for his townace then we need to take the dash off his townace to get to the back of the stereo to wire then ups as the company that fitted it has screwed the damn thing in when they had his dash off to fit the alarm :censor:

Well today had it's ups and downs

On the up side i got the new rear shelf built.

I basically used a flat piece of mdf and used a router and dremel to cut the corners out so that it slots in like the original one.

I also built a box underneath to hold the 6x9's and protect the backs of them i put sound deadening under the Speakers and between the box and shelf to soak up and vibration as i've wrecked 2 sets putting stuff in the boot, i'm thinking about possibly doing some funky lighting with it later.

The down side was when i was drilling the holes (mounting the speakers) the drill bit snapped and as i had some weight on it it went though the back of one of the 6x9's :ffs: So that's a Pioneer TS-A6901 going in the bin, i've ordered a new pair so at least i'll have one spare

got the speaker rings cut too so now need to get the components although the sony ones in there are components they aren't as big as i would like :D

Ok so...

I just collected the rav 4 insert for the double din replacement panel for the dash, and the dash panel on the way home from toyota, so now i need to get the stereo out of the van and fit it to the yaris

why do i think its not going to be a simple job ?

Oh i also have the infinity components sat down stairs but my mate is away so i can go round and use his wood work tools

The fitting of the HU in the surroud really is an easy job! Took me a while the first time but now i reckon i could fit one in around 15mins or less! It's all pretty obvious tbh!

It's all done !!

Did away with the old cage too used the part supplied with the rav 4 part, its really good actually i expected to have to do a load of messing around to get it to fit but it fits well.

Advice to anyone doing the same thing, hold the metal brackets upto the plastic rav 4 part and you'll see which tabs to cut off, if i hadn't had the sense to do this i would have cut the wrong ones off.

Only 3 minor problems, cigarette lighter from the old one doesn't fit the new one, slight gaps between the rav 4 part and the new dash panel but hardly noticable from the seats, and i think i wired the stereo slightly wrong, i can now only listen to the stereo if i turn the ingnition to the second on position, but it keeps the time so maybe i should have wired then both to the Battery lead ? oh well at least i know i won't leave it on by mistake.

Wow looks smart! I kept old HU in aswell as new one as couldnt be bothered to spend money on fascia but does looks better!

I am actually from Burghfield Common which is only 5 minute drive from Thames valley business park!

Quick question but I've noticed this on a few head unit installs but;

does installing an aftermarket head unit mean that the cigarette lighter slot is redundant? :(
