just spotted some oil leaking the other day. out of the engine on to the distributor so took it to toyota to have it checked out turns out the distributor shaft seal is gone. here is the funny bit toyota do not supply the seal so if i want to fix the problem it means replacing the whole distributor which cost 600 euro plus 50 an hour labour. just wanted to know if this has happened to any one else there must be a cheaper way to fix this problem

no that is a second seal a small o-ring that goes on the distributor shaft the one that is gone is much bigger and goes between the distributor mounting bracket and the side of the engine to form an oil seal.

thanks anyway

I thought i might have that problem too, ended up i didn't, it was that first seal that dowasy was talking about, but my mechanic told me i was lucky cuz i would have had to replace the whole thing. I hear its common though, and he has to do about 1 a month, so sorry for the bad news but looks like its your only choice, best thing to do is go to a wrecker and then bring it to a shop for them to put on
