Hi

I have a problem with a Toyota Avensis 1.8 from 99, and I hope that you be able to help me.

The problem is that the car accelerate and de-accelerate (Shake) when I drive at a steadily speed (It is not the wheels) , it starts from 60 km/t and up.

I had this problem on my 525 BMW it turned out to be warped front brake discs and worn lower wishbone bushes. But get your wheel balancing checked first.

I had the warped disks on an Avensis but the shake really only took hold when braking, hence I still think that it's balancing.

The 1.8 of that age is a lean burn engine. Depending on the load it switches between normal and lean burn mode (higher oxigen to petrol ratio wich results in less fuel consumption). With my Carina 1.8 i had a same kind of problem when driving under heavier load then usual (wind in the front). At a certain speed it switched to lean burn and normal mode continously (the economy light switched to "economy" on and off). In this (rare) case the only solution was driving a bit slower (economy light on) or much faster (economy light off).
