Prius, Rolla Sr D4d Or Auris

Okely dokely,

This is a kind of continuation of a previous thread, The Rolla SR petrol vs Diesel thread.

From that discussion I had decided on the SR D4D, however now I'm that I'm looking at a new job which will require me to do 60 miles each way to work (per day) plus travelling to other sites (as I'm an IT Techy), I'm now seriously considering the Prius.. mmm.. Hybrid :)

Now I've heard some mixed opionins on the Hybrid MPG, some people say a D4D is better and some say the Hybrid is better, so I'm really looking for some opinions on this matter. Also, if I was to go for the D4D, would it be better to wait for the Auris to come out (the Rolla replacement right?)

MiniMax suggested posting a thread like this in the Hybrid section (which I will) so I'll get feedback from both sides, plus I'll try and bring some of their opinions across here and vice-versa... or maybe I'll put a post in the Hybrid section asking them to link to here so we can all see each other's opinions.

Many Thanks

G

It depends on what type of driving your be doing ..... a diesel will give better MPG on motorway driving easily, plus it will be alot quicker than the Pruis which is good if you do alot of miles like me for overtaking on the motorway and on single lanes  !

If your mainly driving around town in stop start condition then the Pruis would be better.

Personally if you do go diesel I would wait for the Auris as it is an improvement in all areas on the Corolla  !

Another thing to think about is resale value - everybody wants a diesel now days. I imagine it will be pretty hard to shift a prius in a few years time esp if new/better technology comes out

So to some up buy the Auris - the 180 ;)

Hey DaveSR,

I've just been looking at the Auris spec's and to be honest, I think the 2.2D4D auris looks rather appealing although I could not find the expected MPG of it, plus, and prices, I know the Auris will start from £11,500 odd and I'm assuming thats for the 1.4 petrol version. Also what trims will they be providing on the Auris (will their be an SR version :D ).

I'm not really too bothered about speed, I really just want the most fuel economical. I don't really know what sort of driving I'll be doing, but at a guess mostly A roads and during rush hour times aswell. I think your point on re-sale value is very important (its an investment.. at the end of the day).

Although with the Prius, I mentioned earlier they are looking into adding more batteries so you can use the electric side of the car more (thus saving on petrol), in America they have managed to get over 200mpg... (I'd like to see a diesel do that :D )

The other thing is, the Auris is supposed to be launched Feb this year... will this mean that prices of Rollas should drop? (Could be a bit of a bargin)

Cheers

G

EDIT: Auris Euro NCAP Datasheet http://www.euroncap.com/images/results/sma...20Datasheet.pdf

Auris Brochure http://www.rrggroup.com/RRGImages/toyota/brochures/auris.pdf

EDIT: They quote the Auris 1.4 D4D to do 55.4MPG.. hmmm.. appealing.. I think so... consider the Prius is quoted at 60 somthing MPG.

Did any1 realise the 1.4 D4D Rolla is quoted as 58MPG??

Well at the very least it will mean you can use the fact as a bargaining tool and get a hefty lump off the price of the SR

Aghhh.. there's a slight problem... they don't do a 1.4 D4D SR :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

So it looks like a 1.4 D4D Colour Collection and then mod it to look like an SR.. grrrrr :ffs:

Or wait for the Auris and see what trim they do those in. Although with Auris comming I should get a hefty discount of the old Rolla... at the end of the day I really have to consider money @ this point, this will be my first car (as the other is my mums and I just drive it :) ) and MPG is the biggest factor in my choice (as I'll be doing some hefty millage).

Question: With the Auris comming, will the depreciation on the Rolla increase.. IE what will be the re-sale value of a rolla? But if I get a really hefty discount then maybe I won't loose the much.. hmm.. :help:

All points to consider.

:crybaby: Hmmm how much do you think the re-sale value will be?

I've been invited to test drive the new Auris (pronounced "ow"-"ris", if anyone was wondering) on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, so I'm definatly going to be asking alot of questions and I'll report back to you all on my findings.

£12,995 for a special ‘TR’ model 1.6 5-door aimed at the private market with a higher spec than the T3 model that lists at £1,000 more. T3 is a level of trim, apparently aimed at fleets and likely to be discounted to fleet buyers, so of no interest to private buyers who get more for less with the TR.

Been offered 56 plate SR 2.0L D4-D for £13250. Only has 6 miles on clock & Pre-registered.

If anyone is interested & lives in Midlands ( or not if you don't mind travelling), I can get hold of one for this price.

My son works at a dealership where they are offering a number of cars at Cost price to employee's & family.

E-Mail at adnewton@blueyonder.co.uk if interested.

ownwing a corolla 2.0D4D and working for tmuk in derby , i strongly suggest that you wait for the auris . yes the corolla is a half decent car but its not what you call a " drivers car " , now the auris on the other hand is alot better at handling and coulped with the 177bhp 2.2 from the avensis will put more smiles on youf face than the corolla or the prius could ever do.

Just thought I'd let ya know I ordered my Auris T-Sprit 2.0 D4D with Tech Pack, Style Pack & Protection Pack, got the bootliner and door mats thrown in 4 free, and got a really good deal on a trade in for my Rolla T3 1.4 on a '04'. Was going to get the sunroof but was told I would have to wait till April to take delivery, so dropped that and now have to wait 4 weeks till I get my new Baby :)

Yes the 2.2 T180 comes out in April and has standard sunroof.. better rear suspension and a whole host of other lovely jubly bits and bobs :) Wouldn't mind one of those but I've only been driving for 7 months so I think a 2.0 Turbo Diesel is about right for me  :D lol

Nope not minted, do ok 4 myself, I'm not married (u know B) ) and managed to squeeze my finance guy right down to the lowest flat rate they can do hehehe... I know the trade secrets you see :yahoo: plus got a really good trade in on the T3, and as I'm going to be doing alot of driving with my new job I thought I might aswell splash da cash and enjoy.

[Check out my post in the Auris section for more details if you want]
