HI all,

The 3sGE celica Gen 4 has deserves a replacement air flow system now.

So ive beens earching high and low and seem that either a replacement panel filter is available or most peeps have made generic K&N cone attached to the air flow meter housing.

Any pics, tips, links and advice from previous expereinces would really help.

TIA

PM Zilli. He's got a K&N cone filter on his Gen 4 (Or something like it) He should be able to fill you in on the pros and cons.

Hey there... ok I have one pic of this and it's not a good one.. Have done some mods since... I removed the cover for the generic filter and left the box in place to begin... Just added a cone filter to it and sat it in the box.. Have now removed the box and made a bracket to hold the filter in place... It's fairly simple but you may find that the engine hunts for a little while after... But this will settle down after a day of so... Just make sure the bracket doesn't rub on your HT leads...

Zilli,

I can see that the air flow sensor is housed onto the upper air filter case, did you have to buy any special adaptor, im thinkin just to get a replacement K&N element filter.

Any rationale in drilling additional holes ar adding an extended inlet air pipe for use with the replacement filter?

TIA

To be honest I just used a piece of old exhaust to mate them up... The old bolt holes from the old housing will suffice to attach it to the base when you remove the lower box.. I had to make a square plate and weld the pipe to it but you could do that with spot welds and dare I say it.. silicone... ~ducks and waits to get beaten~

You shouldn't need to drill any extra holes but if you want you could run a bit of ducting around the filter and down to the air duct under the front spoiler... Just be careful you don't pick up crap in wet weather... It should make a nice crisp roar when you break 4,000 and if you have removed the heat shroud from under the hood, you'll certainly get noticed when applying that gentle pressure on the gas...

Any other problems don't hesitate to ask...
