Hi - So Should I Get Rear Parking Sensors?

Hi all, just joined, and looking for some advice....

just bought a second hand 2005 55 xt5 automatic from my local dealer - I'm picking it up this weekend...!

1) So - should I get parking sensors fitted? I've searched the forum and it seems that quite a lot of you have them - I've never needed them before but i've never had an SUV before either, and I guess you can't see what is behind you as well as in lower cars?

2) How do you rate the ones that the dealer (west london) is recommending - 4 sensors £350 inc vat, colour matched for £400, or is there a better option? (I'll be honest and say I don't want to fit them myself)

Thanks for your opinions in advance!

Halfords are doing them for £150.00 fitted and 19.99 for colour matching , I had these on my last car and they worked a treat . The Toyota ones from my main dealer are £299 fitted (Leeds)

My advice is get them and get them fitted by a professional . I had mine done at a main dealer and it involved the bumper coming off. I have had mine colour coded and I'm glad I did.

The answer is YES. I have no regrets. Main dealer fitted and colour coded £273 inc.vat. Only holes drilled are plastic 1/4 bumpers and lower door panel.

Another point to consider, a new spare wheel cover and painting costs a heck of a lot more.

Enjoy your new Rav.

P.S. New 2007 Honda C-RV has front and rear sensors all models except base entry level.

Had someone in recently to fit them to mine - RAV4 XT4 04 model. He refused, saying that they would be constantly sounding due to the spare wheel cover (I wanted the 4 detectors across the back).

Has anyone else met this issue? If so, did you get around it?

Get them fitted by main dealer. expensive but warranty covered. I have new xT 5 Auto with sensors fitted. As you have no indication on dash re what gear you are in (auto) you do get an audible sound when you slip it into reverse. I know you soon get used to the gear change positions but the buzzer is nice to have. Enjoy and drive carefully.

Yes Yes Yes they are a good investment as for colour coding what alot of crap they are only about the size of a 10p coin I paid £90 fitted the bumper was not taken off although I've only got two sensors the door bodywork makes fitting 4 difficult they work very well and as one guy said they make a beep when gear is put into reverse.

I use mine every day for work with ladders on the roof and reversing without them would probably cause a few dents in the rear !

As for warranty that will not have any effect on the warranty having them fitted.

My Rav 4 is a Granite 2 years old is great no problems, the only thing annoys me is that there is no movement detectors on the alarm and the alarm fitted does not have the capacity to take sensors only door and boot contacts. a bit stupid really !!

I always thought they were an expensive gimmick but they really are good. You can back up to something that you really couldn't see without someone stood at the back watching you. All you have to do is point it where you want it and stop when the bleeper sounds continuously - you don't even need to turn around.

I would prefer the isolating switch at the front (I suppose I could always move it someday) as they were a nuisance with snow stuck on them.

I think mine were £425 fitted and painted but don't regret paying it. You can always buy a genuine Toyota kit and the full fitting instructions are on the Toyota publications website.

Regards

Agree with everyones comments that they are good, i got mine fitted by main dealer on new car so they also get three year warrant. If the main dealer makes a mistake drilling the bumper i suspect you stand a better chance of getting it put right than with someone else. Rich.
